ONGOING PROJECTS On October 2009, EPC in collaboration with Tokyo Engineering Consultants Co. Ltd, a premier Japanese firm in the water sector since 1959; signed jointly a contract with the Government of Albania (Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Telecommunication) for: "Consulting Services for Greater Tirana Sewerage Improvement Project". contract amount is Japanese Yen 989,908,916 financed through JICA in terms of an ODA Loan Project implementation life is 5 years. The Project, was formulated based on the feasibility study conducted by JICA in 2005 and 2006. 6
PROJECT OBJECTIVES Provide a better living and sanitary environment for more people by expanding the sewerage system which will collect and convey the sewage in an appropriate manner. Contribute towards water quality improvement in the Lana and Tirana Rivers, by introducing sewage treatment. Provide flooding protection and reduce flood damage by collecting sewage in pipes and by discharging at a designated point into the river. CONSULTANT S ROLE The objective of the Consulting Services for the Project is to provide services and assistance to General Directorate of Water Supply and Sewerage (DPUK) carrying out: Review of Basic Design and Existing Studies Detailed Design (D /D) for First stage project, Assistance of Tender and Contract Procedures, Construction Supervision, Development and Implementation of Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan, Training for Sewerage Sectors' O&M and Other Technical Awareness Raising and Education Campaign (AREC) Feasibility Study for Second stage project, Institutional Capacity Building of DPUK (PIU) 8
