KNOW- HOW More than 600 (forest)bioeconomy experts - researchers, trainees, teachers, innovators In Joensuu we have all the most significant research institutes of bioeconomy of Finland We can offer education in all levels of forestry International environment Companies like John Deere (machines), Fortum (pyrolysis oil), Stora Enso (dissolving pulp for new product out of wood) Over 500 big and small companies with more than 2 mrd turnover

COMMITMENT In 2011 it was decided to give up oil in heating in North Karelia. The amount of bioenergy should be over 80 % by 2020. The turnover in bioeconomy is aimed grow by 1 mrd by 2025. Joensuu has had very crucial role in development of national bioeconomy programs. The city of Joensuu is committed to innovative public procurement and development of the companies in the area.

BEST IN THE WORLD IN COOPERATION In North Karelia the environment for bioeconomy is the best possible: active companies, strong know-how and commitment. The strategies of the different companies are uniform and the atmosphere for cooperation is good. New is born when people meet and know-how is transferred. In Joensuu this is easy since the distances are small. The Joensuu area with strong know-how is attractive sustainable, smart and creating green growth.

BUT How all this will be utilized as new products and growing business? How to create new enterprises? Where new investments? Are we open enough? Ideas and innovations are born when different know-how is combined All knowledge how is, however, not in this area
