2 Food safety is our shared responsibility. It is the right thing to do.

3

Food Safety is our shared responsibility Industry is responsible and held accountable for sourcing and producing safe food products Government sets policy and enforces regulations pertaining to food safety standards in production. Academic institutions conduct research, teaching and extension to promote food safety Consumers practice proper selection, handling, preparation and serving techniques. 4

Food for thought. Food Safety is non negotiable Knows no geographic boundaries It is either safe or not safe Food Safety strengthens quality It controls hazards and minimizes risks Food Safety is good business It is the right thing to do The cost of non-compliance outweighs the cost of compliance 5

Ensuring safe food to protect the consumer is to prevent food safety incidents from happening Proactive approach: Building food safety in the supply chain from farm to table to control hazards and minimize risks versus Reactive approach: Testing (for) food safety randomly in products to find hazards 6

Farm-to-Table Supply Chain Crops, Produce Animal Production Harvest, Slaughter Raw Materials Processed Products Suppliers are vital links in the food supply chain. Cooperation and commitment among multiple shareholders are critical to ensure food safety in the supply chain Food Service Distribution Retailers Consumer
