FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) What is expected from us? You employ the apprentice and provide them with a contract of employment. You should treat them as you would any other member of staff, and you should provide: A salary (which should be at least 2.73 per hour, minimum 30 hours in their first year of training) NI contributions, holiday pay and sick pay Information on the role and duties A safe environment, adhering to Health and Safety regulations, with any PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). You should hold a current employers liability insurance document. Suitable supervision your staff will need to spend time supporting and mentoring the apprentice Opportunities for them to develop in their job role Access for assessors to visit regularly, in order to carry out assessments and review progress Input in the review process of your apprentice, along with necessary feedback. How often will an apprentice attend College? Usually one day per week during term time, although some courses operate block release. How many hours can apprentices work? Up to a maximum of 40 hours per week, including their day release course (average of 8 hours a day). What about the costs? Employers are required to pay wages and associated costs.
