Dematerializing Products Vietnamese potteries improved their product designs, reducing material requirements by up to 20%, enabling equivalent savings on energy for firing kilns and product transport. Thai potteries improved their raw material preparation and can fire their products at lower temperatures saving up to 40% on energy use. 26 August 2015 NIES ITB research seminar 9
Increasing Process Efficiency G steel in Thailand operates integrated mini steel mill (EAF) with hot rolled coil production. It repositioned the EAF burners to improve efficiency of oxygen use and improved the operation of the casting machine (including installation of slag detector). The investment of USD210,000 generated annual savings over USD15million, reduced power use by 90 GWhr per annum and reduced GHG emissions by 43,000 tco2 eq annually 26 August 2015 NIES ITB research 10 seminar
Minimizing Process Emissions In Ankleshwar Industrial Estate (India) 12 companies used nitric acid oxidation which released 281 tons of nitrous oxide per year equivalent to 77,500 tons CO 2 eq. A new process based on catalytic oxidation with oxygen was developed, which eliminates N 2 O emissions and requires less energy. In total, annual GHG emissions are reduced by 88,000 tons CO 2 eq. 26 August 2015 NIES ITB research 11 seminar
Switching to Low Carbon Inputs Rathkerewa Desiccated Coconut Industry in Sri Lanka decreased CO 2 intensity by 90% (900 tons per year) by switching energy source from fossil fuels to waste coconut shells, which were previously landfilled.
