We Use Less Energy We Reduce the Heat Island We Reduce, Reuse, Recycle We Breathe Better We Use Less Water We Are Sustainable CLICK ON THE BUTTONS TO LEARN MORE! It is tough saving the world, but by making the choice of living at The Swift at Petworth Metro, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver community, your carbon footprint is cleaner and better for the environment. LEED is a rating system devised by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the environmental performance of a building and encourage market transformation towards sustainable design. The Swift understands the importance of conserving the environment, which is why we offer a variety of eco-friendly amenities and apartment features to further improve the quality of life for our residents and the Earth. Learn more about the many ways The Swift is eco-friendly throughout our building and surrounding area and how you can do your part!

WE ARE SUSTAINABLE Here at The Swift, we pride ourselves in offering our residents a variety of means of transportation, making it more convenient for them. We are located near a Capital Bikeshare stand, bus routes, and the Petworth Metro. A simple and yet more effective way to live an eco-friendly life is to either take public transportation for your daily commuting needs, walk, or ride a bicycle, and these options are all afforded to you at The Swift. The Swift also has two Zipcar spots, bike racks, and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations all in our controlled access garage. These all assist in lowering automobile pollution in the air.

We Are Sustainable We Use Less Water We Reduce, Reuse, Recycle We Breathe Better We Use Less Energy We Reduce the Heat Island WE USE LESS WATER The Swift reuses the condensation from the downstairs Safeway s HVAC system to irrigate the native plant life on our roof deck. The Swift s landscaping is water efficient and our storm water management reduces water pollution, making our apartment community clean for residents. On top of that, our low flow fixtures and Energy Star certified appliances provide optimal performance and use less water. At The Swift we offer individual metering of water consumption which helps our team identify leaks before they are visible and reduces human consumption by increasing awareness. So without any effort, you will be eco-friendly in the comfort of your own apartment home at The Swift.

WE REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE Recycling is one of the best ways for you to have a positive impact on the world in which we live. The Swift encourages residents to reuse and recycle paper, corrugated cardboard, glass, plastic, and metals. The Swift facilitates the donation of used furniture or home goods. Many of The Swift s building materials were sourced from within 500 miles of Petworth. Recycling is essential to cities around the world and to the people living in them.

WE BREATHE BETTER The Swift has a strict no smoking policy, allowing residents to breathe in and enjoy cleaner air that is not only healthier, but is also safer for the environment. Our windows bring in plenty of natural light allowing residents to enjoy breathtaking views of DC, and are designed to reduce noise volume. The Swift s low VOC paint, flooring, and other building materials release less chemicals into the air at The Swift. We use filters that are over 30-times more efficient at capturing micro particles than ordinary fiberglass filters.

WE USE LESS ENERGY The Swift s common area lights turn off when no one is around and the garage fans only turn on when needed, saving energy throughout the building. Our double-paned windows reduce demand on the heating and cooling system and our Energy Star certified appliances limit energy consumption, not only providing residents with an eco-friendly solution, but also offering them a higherquality apartment feature.

We Are Sustainable We Use Less Water We Reduce, Reuse, Recycle We Breathe Better We Use Less Energy We Reduce the Heat Island WE REDUCE THE HEAT ISLAND An Urban Heat Island (UHI) is an urban area or metropolitan area that is significantly warmer than its surrounding rural areas due to human activities. The Swift s basement-level garage improves our impact and the reflective white roof reduces the HIEO by up to 75%. Our beautifully landscaped courtyard, which doubles as a green roof, supports native plants and trees, allowing residents to enjoy the beauty of nature in an eco-friendly way. Our green roof serves several purposes for The Swift, such as absorbing rainwater, providing insulation, creating a habitat for plant life, helping to lower urban air temperatures, and of course, providing people with more aesthetically pleasing landscape.
