BEEM Up WP2 Monthly Update template, material for the official website Covering (Month/Year): January/2012 Submitted (date): 06/02/2012 Construction site: Brogården, Alingsås, Sweden Cotentin, Paris, France van der Lelijstraat, Delft, the Netherlands Delivered by (name, company): Aurélien Henon, Nobatek News update (Ongoing works, planned works, setbacks or breakthroughs five sentences at the most. - Preparation of the deployment of several metering systems (beginning of February). The objective is to get data before refurbishment in order to facilitate the evaluation of its impact on energy performances and user comfort. - Monitoring system in 20 apartments: comfort and detailed electric consumption measurements. - Specific tests that will be repeated after refurbishment: infrared thermography (interior and exterior), blower-door test, acoustic test between floors and between apartments of a same floor. Pictures (at least two photos and/or videos are to be uploaded each month): Photo enclosed (jpg, min 300 dpi) Description: <01_2012_Paris_01> - Electric meter (without monitoring system) <01_2012_Paris_02> - Back side façade (target of TIR measurements)

BEEM Up WP2 Monthly Update template, material for the official website Covering (Month/Year): February/2012 Submitted (date): 02/03/2012 Construction site: Brogården, Alingsås, Sweden Cotentin, Paris, France van der Lelijstraat, Delft, the Netherlands Delivered by (name, company): Aurélien Henon, Nobatek News update (Ongoing works, planned works, setbacks or breakthroughs five sentences at the most. - Several tests and monitoring deployment in one apartment (before refurbishment). - This month : focus on the blower door tests - 2 depressurized tests : to measure the airtightness as a function of the pressure difference value. Infrared thermography measurements are carried out simultaneously. - 1 pressurized test to make it possible to locate the air leakage pathways (with artificial smoke). It enables identifying locations where the thermal losses are potentially important. Pictures (at least two photos and/or videos are to be uploaded each month): Photo enclosed (jpg, min 300 dpi) Description: <02_2012_Paris_01> - Blower door assembly 02_2012_Paris_01

BEEM Up WP2 Monthly Update template, material for the official website Covering (Month/Year): March/2012 Submitted (date): 02/04/2012 Construction site: Brogården, Alingsås, Sweden Cotentin, Paris, France van der Lelijstraat, Delft, the Netherlands Delivered by (name, company): Aurélien Henon, Nobatek News update (Ongoing works, planned works, setbacks or breakthroughs five sentences at the most. - Last month: focus on the blower door tests (before refurbishment). - This month : visual characterization of the performance of windows The infrared thermography emphasizes colder areas, which are supposed to be representative of thermal losses through the joints. The surface temperature values of the double-glazing cannot be interpreted as easily because of the specificity of its thermo-radiative properties. See <03_2012_Paris_01>. The observation of artificial smoke flows confirms the previous considerations by showing the air leakage pathways around areas that should be airtight (window joints). See <03_2012_Paris_02>. Comfort : The indoor temperature and the hygrometric conditions are measured by a stand-alone sensor. A complete procedure is carried out for these measurements: observations planning (choice of the number of sensors, their type, their locations, the observation period, ), development and setting of the infrastructure (sensor, repeater, datalogger, computer, web application), calibration of the devices, data check system After applying this procedure the sensors are placed in such a way that they will be protected and will not bother the users (see picture 2). All the data collected will be subsequently analysed, for different time scales, in order to evaluate the consumption characteristics according to the indoor comfort conditions. Observations and measurements on several topics linked to energy efficiency and comfort. Some of these measurements correspond to continuous data from wireless sensors (figure), that s the case for temperature and humidity for example. Electric consumption (continuous) Hygrometric comfort (continuous over limited periods) Acoustic insulation (diagnostic) Air tightness (diagnostic) Thermal losses through thermal bridges (diagnostic) A measurement strategy was defined in order to ensure the comparison of the situations before and after retrofitting. Hence 2 measurements periods were chosen : 1 reference period between January 2012 and autumn 2012, 1 observation period from march 2013 (start of the retrofitting works). BEEM Up WP2 Monthly Update template, material for the official website Covering (Month/Year): November/2012 Submitted (date): 09/04/2013 Construction site: Brogården, Alingsås, Sweden Cotentin, Paris, France van der Lelijstraat, Delft, the Netherlands Delivered by (name, company): Aurélien Henon, Nobatek News update (Ongoing works, planned works, setbacks or breakthroughs five sentences at the most. - This month: Selection of the companies for the realisation of the refurbishment works. - Close-up on the infrared thermography measurements (BEFORE RETROFIT) 2 types of measurements were carried out: 1) to observe the air tightness quality, 2) to observe the thermal bridges of the facades The measurements are made from the inside in depressurization conditions during the blower-door test. The colder parts of the pictures (see figure 2) indicate locations where the air tightness quality is lower (see figure 1). In figure 3 we observe air leaks from an entrance door from the common hallway, out of the depressurization period, hence the warmer temperature observed for the leaks here. It is important here to take into account the position of the camera (inside/outside) and the direction of the air flows (positive or negative pressures) in order to interpret correctly the measurements. The measurements are made from outside the building aiming at the facade. Warmer parts correspond to thermal bridges, mainly observable for intermediary floors, shear walls, and window frames (see figures 4 and 5). In order to interpret correctly the observations, it is important here to be careful about the diversity of materials included in the field of view, and more especially to the heterogeneity of radiative properties and radiative fluxes conditions. Pictures (at least two photos and/or videos are to be uploaded each month): Photo enclosed (jpg, min 300 dpi) Description: - Degraded seal, causing air leaks (put in evidence by the smoke generator) <11_2012_Paris_01> - - Observation of air leaks during the air tightness test
