The Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare (the Centre) is the peak body representing over 100 organisations that work with children and families experiencing vulnerability in Victoria. Its members include a wide range of children and family services, local government and other sector organisations in health and education. We provide advocacy, research, policy analysis and training to member organisations. We have a strong focus on working in partnership with organisations, including cross-sectoral collaborations. The Centre has been working closely with the Department of Health and Human Services to implement key reforms, including in out-of-home care, building workforce capability and implementing evidence-informed practice. The project brings together Victoria s 25 foster care agencies to deliver a unified campaign and brand to raise awareness of foster care and make it easier for people interested in becoming a carer to take the first step. It includes a central website, 24/7 enquiry line and centralised database which captures rich data for agencies regarding prospective and current Victorian carers. Position Summary The Coordinator will support the strategies and goals of the Centre and the project. As a key driver the Project s communications, this position will ensure the project has a well-structured communication strategy and a professional and informed media presence. Key Accountabilities The Coordinator will be responsible for the following: Communications Working with the PM to develop and implement communication and sector engagement plans for the next phase of the campaign Write and edit effective and engaging copy for marketing collateral, media releases, web content, social media, general brochures etc. to support the campaign Initiate, research, develop and build a bank of rich content about foster care to support attraction and recruitment activities Track effectiveness of various communication methods with different audiences and produce insightful reports for the campaign and sector at large Version 1 Page 2 of 5
Advertising Support the development of state-wide and local advertising campaigns Work with member agencies in developing local advertising and recruitment plans In collaboration with state departments and media buying agency, deliver on media and advertising strategy Research and assess advertising opportunities across the state Moderate the project s social media accounts and in charge of the project s SEO Media Identify opportunities to proactively promote and sector agencies through media channels Pitch stories and campaign initiatives to state-wide and local media outlets, ensuring high quality coverage throughout the year across Victoria Develop and maintain effective working relationships with respective media outlets Identify audience needs and priorities and effective media for reaching specific audiences Work closely with the Project Manager and Media company to plan and manage paid media Working collaboratively to support sector agencies leverage media opportunities across the state Other Coordinate and facilitate the Marketing Working Group meetings Review and refresh website content regularly Other duties as assigned by PM from time to time This position requires regular travel within Victoria Key Selection Criteria The successful applicant will have: 1. Knowledge Knowledge of media industry and its relationship with NFP sector Knowledge and understanding of the issues facing community service organisations in the delivery of services Version 1 Page 3 of 5
Knowledge and experience in working with a government department in development and delivery of media campaigns 2. Skills 1) Proven capabilities and experience with overall media and communication strategies including, media monitoring, media releases, media interviews (television and radio), opinion pieces and the successful management of business social media including video, blogs, newsletters and other web based functions 2) Experience in securing media opportunities 3) Experience in the development of communications strategies 4) Evidence of editing experience, excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work 5) Experience in using regular reports in monitoring and improving campaign performance 6) Excellent interpersonal, networking and communication skills, including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate effectively at all levels 7) Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a cooperative team environment, while exercising sound judgment and decision-making skills. 8) Excellent planning, time management and administrative skills 9) Information technology skills of a high standard including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and specific capability with a broad range of web based media 10) Ability to manage change and adapt to a changing environment 3. Experience Previous communication roles The community services and or social profit sector 4. Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field e.g. Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field with relevant media experience; exceptional writing skills, preferably with an understanding of journalistic writing and editing techniques and or an equivalent alternative combination of relevant knowledge, training and experience.
