Freight Auction overview Chapter 2. Freight Auction overview The Freight Auction module, developed using the Agile Business Process Platform (ABPP), facilitates the publication of loads created in Transportation Manager (TM) to a private auction. Carriers previously set up in TM are invited to bid on these loads as an adjunct to the load tender process. In a Base Contract Auction, a carrier can only accept a load based on the price previously specified through the appropriate contract in TM. In an Adjusted Contract Auction, a carrier can accept a load based on a proposed adjustment to the price specified through the appropriate contract in TM. This proposed adjustment could be a discount or a surcharge, depending upon current market conditions. For example, a carrier can accept a load for less than the regular price in a highly competitive market but for more than the regular price if a capacity shortage exists. Loads sent to Freight Auction are made available for bidding within a series of pre-defined rounds, with bids assessed at the end of each round. Additionally, in the case of a Base Contract Auction, a bidding round is terminated immediately if a load is accepted by the preferred carrier (this refers to an internal ranking of all carriers, to whom the load has been offered). Carrier users access Freight Auction through the web interface and bid on any of the loads that are offered to them and monitor the status of bids previously placed. This is managed in the Carrier view using the Freight Auction, Bid Status, and Bid History tabs. Employee users access Freight Auction through a web interface and can review carrier bids as required. They can also override the bid assessment process and manually award a load to a specific carrier or even remove a load from the Freight Auction. This is managed in the Employee view, using the Freight Auction, Awaiting Auction, Awarded Loads, and Bid History tabs. Administrator users set up the Freight Auction system. They also manage the auction configuration and user roles. After a load has been awarded to a carrier it is removed from Freight Auction and tendered to the winning carrier in TM. All Freight Auction data is retained for the purpose of history or analysis based on the configuration settings. User hierarchy Freight Auction supports the following types of carrier users: Primary carrier Secondary carrier Visitor carrier - primary or secondary A primary carrier can be defined with or without associated secondary carriers, and has access and permissions to act on bid loads available to associated secondary carriers in addition to the primary carrier's own bid loads. A visitor carrier (primary or secondary) has permissions only to view bid or load data and is not authorized to take any action. The action buttons on the Freight Auction pages are not available to a visitor carrier. JDA Transportation Manager Freight Auction Carrier User Guide 3
