Session Agenda Intro to Surface Types Abridged History of All-Weather Track Surfaces Permeable/Impermeable Surface Standards Typical Track Surface Components Common Permeable All-Weather Surface Types Water Based Latex/Acrylic Systems Polyurethane Paved Mat/Structural Spray Systems Common Impermeable All-Weather Surface Types Polyurethane Paved Mat/Seal/Structural Spray Systems Polyurethane Sandwich Systems Full Pour Polyurethane Systems Pre-manufactured Systems Installation Criteria and Limitations Questions
History of All-Weather Tracks Initially Cinder, Clay, Grass or Other Natural Materials Sand- Asphalt-Rubber Tracks Developed in the Late 50 s Polyurethane Tracks Developed in the 60 s Prefabricated Tracks Developed in the 70 s Latex Tracks Developed in the 80 s -Olympic Park Melbourne 1956
Track Classifications Permeable Water Flows Through Surface to/from Pavement Allows Vapor Pressure to Escape Through Surface Impermeable Water does not Penetrate Surface Requires a Relatively Moisture Free Base
Surface Standards ASBA ASTM F-2157-09 D.I.N (Din # 18035 Part 6) IAAF
IAAF Performance Standards IAAF Performance Standards The new synthetic track surfacing system shall exhibit the following minimum performance standards as required by IAAF. A. Thickness > 12mm B. Force Reduction 35 to 50% C. Modified Vertical Deformation 0.6 to 2.5mm D. Friction > 47 TRRL Skid Resistance E. Tensile Strength > 0.5MPa F. Elongation at Break > 40%

Installation Limitations 1. Follow Manufacturer's Guidelines 2. Weather: Temperatures, Surface Moisture, Precipitation probability, wind speed and direction (Spray Systems) 3. Facility owners schedule/utilizing field inside of track facility 4. Asphalt/Concrete Curing Times 5. Working with your surface installer. 6. Resurfacing Limitations
