Exempt Non-exempt Full Time Part Time ( 40 hrs./week) Position Summary: Chief Executive Officer of the Police Department responsible for the management of all Police Personnel, Fiscal Management of Police Department, enforcement of State, Federal and local laws and ordinances. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. operational necessity. Other duties may be assigned as dictated by Maintains cooperative relationships with the public, governmental entities, and inter-city departments. Responsible for department planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, recruiting and budget planning of the Department's operation. Delegates duties as necessary to subordinates and holds same accountable for their performance. Responsible for the budget, the cost effective expenditure of those funds and providing cost effective service as a result of those expenditures. Responsible for the overall integrity and discipline of the Department. Responsible for coordinating the grievance process. Insure police personnel are enforcing federal, state and local laws and ordinance. Review all emergency operations plans for Police Department and coordinates with the Emergency Management Director to ensure that the City is prepared for Hurricane season. Review all new construction plans in the City limitsto ensure compliance with local public safety ordinances. Review all event permits to ensure that those in attendance have adequate security and safety. Attend various meetings, including City Council, Development Review Committee, Marine Advisory, Region Training Council, Accreditation Commission meetings. Knowledge in operating a police vehicle, including high speed pursuit, proper placement during an incident, and proper general care and maintenance. Ability to get in and out of a patrol car on a frequent basis. Ability to successfully pass a physical skills and agility test. Education and Experience: Five (5) years experience in a senior level management (Command) position within a law enforcement agency, preferably City Police. Bachelor s Degree in a related field required. Master s degree highly desirable, but not required. Certificates and Licenses: Must possess a valid Florida driver s license. Must possess a current Florida Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) certificate, or acquire one within six (6) months of being hired.
