Resources and Dress Requirements required by Student A note pad, pen, USB and headphone is required for all lessons. Dress code, as per the student handbook. Personal Study Load Students will be expected to attend classes including online workshops. A general rule is a minimum of equal time is spent outside the class on study and research as in class time. Students must allocate study and research time outside of class to complete this qualification successfully. Also, do not rely on fellow students to relay information, as this may result in incorrect information being passed on for which the teacher is not held responsible. Study and research time will vary depending on the individual student s skills and knowledge. Students must complete and submit all assessment items by the due date and be assessed to a satisfactory standard to obtain a competency grade for each Unit of Competency. Confidentiality As an enrolled student of TAFE Queensland, you may be required to attend practical work placements as part of your studies. During these placements, you may become familiar with information that is confidential to that workplace (for example financial or business affairs, personal affairs and family background of staff and clients, technical information, trade secrets, know-how, formulae, processes, ideas, and inventions). You must not divulge any confidential information that you become aware of during a placement. Breaches of confidentiality will be considered to be acts of behavioural misconduct and may result in disciplinary action. 3. ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW Competency Based Training and Assessment The broad concept of competency is related to realistic work practices expressed as an outcome. Competency comprises the consistent application of knowledge and skills to the standard of performance required in the workplace. It embodies the ability to transfer and apply skills and knowledge to new situations and environments. Unit of Competency Guide The Unit of Competency Guide outlines specific assessment requirements for each Unit of Competency, number of assessments and due dates for assessments. Assessment Task Instructions Assessment Task Instructions explain in detail what is required to complete the assessment satisfactorily. It provides the instructions to perform the assessment task, the criteria that will be used to determine whether your performance is satisfactory, feedback and the results for that assessment task. Contact your teacher for further information. Reasonable Adjustment Reasonable adjustment may be required for some students with a disability or specific learning needs. Modification to the learning environment, or making changes to the training and assessment may be necessary to provide students with an equal opportunity to demonstrate competence. Reasonable adjustment may include - adapting delivery strategies; customising resources and activities; providing learning support; making information accessible at an earlier stage; modifying or providing equipment; adapting assessment strategies and conditions. If you have a disability or specific learning needs, please contact your teacher who can determine whether reasonable adjustment will be required in the learning environment and how the adjustments can be applied. Assessment Extensions You should complete/submit assessment items by the due date, unless an extension has been granted by your teacher. Extensions will only be granted due to personal illness, or for other extenuating circumstances. Formal requests for extensions should be submitted to your teacher in writing 48 hours prior to the advertised deadline where possible. For further information, refer to the TAFE Queensland Student Rules (s16 Assessment): http://www.tafe.qld.gov.au/students/rules/index.html Academic Misconduct Cheating, Plagiarism and Collusion Academic misconduct includes but is not limited to cheating (including supporting others in cheating), plagiarism, collusion (working groups where not approved by the teacher), electronic plagiarism and falsifying information. Plagiarism is when you use other writers ideas or words as your own. The most common forms are: Directly copying word for word another person s work without proper acknowledgement Using or developing another person s ideas without acknowledging them Using the work of other students (with or without their permission) and claiming it as your own 4

If your first attempt at an assessment task is unsatisfactory, you may be offered a second attempt. For further information refer to the TAFE Queensland Student Rules (s16 Assessment): http://www.tafe.qld.gov.au/students/rules/index.html Results You must satisfactorily complete all the assessment tasks to be awarded competency achieved (J). You must have attempted all the assessment tasks and been judged as being unsatisfactory in one or more assessment tasks to be awarded not competent (M). You will be Withdrawn / Discontinued (AW) if you have engaged in a learning activity, but have not attempted all assessment tasks or officially withdrawn. If you are an apprentice or trainee, you will be given a K result after completing your TAFE studies until such time as your employer verifies your competency performance. Academic Appeals If you wish to challenge the final result given to you for a Unit of Competency, you may do so in writing, following the process outlined in the TAFE Queensland Student Rules.
