POWER SYSTEM SAFETY AND PROTECTION COURSES High voltage electrical systems can be potentially very dangerous if neglected or operated incorrectly, so it is essential to have up-to-date training to protect both the operator and the plant. Electrical accidents commonly occur whilst equipment, such as switchgear, transformers and cables, are being maintained. Most accidents happen when workers haven t been fully trained, or are being poorly supervised, or when the risks of the work have not been properly assessed. It is vital that employees who are required to operate and work on both high and low voltage systems are adequately trained and are assessed as being competent for the duties and responsibilities they undertake. It is important that such persons operate within a suitable safety management system that satisfies the requirements of the current legislation of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999. The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 has had a significant impact on companies found guilty of causing the death of a worker due to gross negligence.
