Business Spotlight Welcome to Business Spotlight, the monthly telephone omnibus survey from IFF Research. Every month, we conduct 500 telephone interviews with a representative sample of senior people with decision-making authority from a wide cross-section of the UK business community. Business Spotlight is a business omnibus this is a research tool which allows several organisations to ask their own questions within the same survey, providing them with reliable data in a more-cost effective way than investing in a totally bespoke survey. A combination of telephone-based fieldwork and high-quality sample design ensures that Business Spotlight delivers significantly more robust results than an online panel is ever likely to achieve, and our fair and transparent approach to pricing no entry fees, no set-up costs, no minimum spend, and no hidden charges makes it one of the most cost-effective surveys available in the UK today.

Telephone survey Business Spotlight is a cost-effective telephone survey for any organisation aiming to make better business decisions. Our clients come from a wide range of industries operating within the private, public and third sectors. We also help membership bodies and regulatory organisations wishing to track opinions and develop insights on behalf of their members. Business Spotlight reduces uncertainty during the decision-making process, providing independent evidence to safeguard a company against taking unnecessary risks when making significant commercial investments. l Are the opinions of senior UK business people important to your organisation s plans and goals? l Are you interested in the views of UK businesses relating to matters such as; the economy, politics and future financial confidence? l Do you require independent data to inform and guide boardroom policy? l Are you looking for insights and attitudes concerning purchasing patterns to help your sales teams to increase turnover and improve profits? l Do you wish to protect your organisation s future, by keeping abreast of developing trends in today s dynamic business environment? l Do you wish to gain pre-launch feedback for a new policy, initiative, service or product? l Are you looking for a cost-effective way to test the UK business marketplace for advertising, promotion, communication, PR, branding, or any other marketing purposes? l Would it be beneficial to gain a better understanding of the knowledge of UK businesses concerning governance, compliance, pensions, employment law, accreditation - or any other issues relevant to your organisation?

Sample design Business Spotlight uses a sample size of 500 senior decision makers from UK businesses, and we ensure we include a fair representation of organisations with differing numbers of employees. Therefore, we have designed our sample with the following minimum quotas by business size: Please note that these are minimum targets, and that the total number of monthly interviews will always be at least 500. Interviews are achieved across businesses operating in the private sector and the not-for-profit third sector, and the data is weighted to ensure that it is representative of all UK businesses by size (determined by number of employees), geographical region and industry sector. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your specific organisational requirements in more detail. Organisations Number of Interviews Sole traders At least 50 interviews 1-9 employees At least 100 interviews 10-49 employees At least 100 interviews 50-249 employees At least 100 interviews 250+ employees At least 25 interviews If you are looking for market research for a specific geographical region, market sector or demographic profile, our DataBoost service lets you build up a larger sample of interviews with the group you are most interested in. Databoost

Six-step process Our six-step process starts with a client briefing to discuss their needs and goals, followed by question design and survey preparation. We complete telephone fieldwork over a two-week period and data tables are available shortly thereafter we then hold a conference call with each client to discuss their results in more detail and to answer any questions they may have. This first step is to make sure that we understand a client s overall objectives. This ensures that we are able to offer the correct package to suit their needs and budget. We use our extensive experience in market research to design questions so that they are asked in the best possible way. This will ensure the highest quality output. We programme our computer systems with a client-approved telephone script before briefing in our in-house fieldwork on the overall aim behind each client s questions. Over a two-week period, our fieldwork team, working from our London call centre, complete 500 unique calls with UK senior decision makers representing a wide range of businesses. We process the results of the omnibus survey into user-friendly data tables. These are sent to each individual client within a week of the telephone survey being completed. We offer a conference call to all clients, the purpose of which is to discuss the results and to answer any questions they might have. We offer additional reporting if required.

Monthly options Business Spotlight is a monthly hotline with lots of options. Some clients require instant insight into what businesses think; others are looking for a trustworthy benchmarking tool to provide them with an ongoing barometer of opinions, trends and behaviours amongst the UK business community. Snapshot Snapshot is ideal for organisations looking for a one-off research solution, or for those who wish to analyse the UK business marketplace on an ad hoc basis. Our monthly omnibus is a great survey tool for companies looking for robust market insight at a cost-effective price. Tracker Tracker is ideal for organisations looking for ongoing analysis on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. We use a variety of reporting tools that allow our clients to track trends in behaviours and attitudes over a period of time. Are you looking for market research with a greater focus on a specific geographical region, market sector or demographic profile? DataBoost might be the solution you are looking for. Our approach to sample design, lets you build up a larger selection of interviews with the group you are most interested in, ensuring that the results of the survey are as relevant to your needs a possible from an off-the-shelf product. Databoost

Data reporting Some of our clients ask us to supply them with data tables, which they will analyse and incorporate into their own reports and presentations. Others prefer us to provide them with an executive summary and/or a full reporting package, either because they don t have the resources to analyse the data tables internally, or because they prefer to receive independent analysis from a third party such as ourselves. Question Explanation Cost Yes/No A simple question for which response options are either yes or no. 500 Pre-coded This type of question can be either prompted or unprompted. For a prompted pre-coded question, the interviewer will read out a question followed by a list of possible response options that a respondent can choose from. For an unprompted pre-coded question, the interviewer will read out a question and then let a respondent answer it in their own words. The interviewer will then select from a list of pre-agreed options those that most closely reflect what a respondent has said. 1,400-1,700 Statement in a grid This is where the same scale needs to be used for multiple statements. For example, the extent to which a respondent agrees or disagrees with a number of attitudinal statements. 650 Fully open-ended An open question which allows a respondent to give an answer in their own words. The verbatim text is taken down in full by the interviewer, and responses are subsequently grouped into themes. 1,900-2,500
