Accounting Technicians perform specialized and complex accounting work in reviewing, processing, and recording financial transactions in a major accounting system. Duties include but are not limited to such tasks as: establishing, maintaining and controlling subsidiary accounting records and journals, reconciling and balancing fund accounts, and preparing financial statements and cost reports. TENTATIVE EXAM DATE Tentative Written Exam: January 31, 2018 TYPICAL TASKS Establishes, maintains and controls subsidiary accounting records and journals involving a wide variety of accounts and transactions Reconciles and balances fund accounts Reviews documents authorizing expenditures from various funds and accounts for conformance to existing standards and procedural requirements Performs the more complex central payroll work in the Office of the Audit- Controller involving extensions, deductions, adjustments, corrections and special warrants. Interprets various rules and regulations relating to the preparation of clerical accounting records and reports As directed, reviews clerical accounting systems and procedures to meet new or changing requirements prepares financial statements and cost reports and projections Prepares a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual reports May assist in the preparation and control of departmental budget MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Four (4) years of full-time or its equivalent experience in the preparation and processing of accounting documents and in the maintenance of accounting records, one (1) year of which was at the level of Contra Costa County Account Clerk Advanced classification. Substitution for Experience: Education: Completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter units in accounting from an accredited college or university can be substituted for one year of the required experience; completion of additional education units or a college degree in business administration, finance, accounting, auditing or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
