JOB DESCRIPTION General Manager, The Bristol Wing and The Kitchen Terms Contract Term: Salary: Fixed Term Maternity Cover Post, initially six months 30,000 per annum Responsible to: Director, YMCA Bristol Line Managed: Director, YMCA Bristol Line management responsibility: Working Hours: Special Conditions: Annual Leave: All hostel and non-catering café staff and volunteers Full Time (40 hours per week - see Special Conditions below) Evening, weekend, overnight and early morning work will be required, but time off in lieu can be taken 25 days per year + Bank Holidays Other benefits: Access to training opportunities Job Purpose The General Manager will be responsible for the day to day running of the new YMCA Bristol hostel (The Bristol Wing) and the The Kitchen. The aim will be to develop and maintaining a successful accommodation, hospitality and food business alongside our social purpose of providing accommodation, training, support and work opportunities for young people. We will be looking for the General Manager to deliver the following: Agreed income levels across the hostel and cafe. Effective cost control and procurement. A motivated and effective staff team. Excellent customer experience and feedback.
Meaningful opportunities for the involvement of young people. Key Responsibilities Business Development Work with the Director to deliver an agreed income target for the hostel. Work with the Director and Catering Manager to deliver an income target for the café. Work with the Catering Manager to develop promotions, products and menus for the café. Marketing strategy and activity including a framework for social media and PR. Work with the Director to set targets for gross profit, to control costs and minimise overheads where possible. Identifying and developing new business opportunities. Day to Day Management Development and implementation of systems to ensure consistency and quality. Implementation of a range of policies to ensure a safe environment for staff, volunteers and customers (including Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Fire Safety and Food Safety) Driving excellence across all areas of work Overseeing planned and reactive maintenance, servicing and repairs Cash management and banking General finance administration working with our finance team Maintaining and implementing HR systems including rotas, staff sickness, annual leave and recruitment making use of our online HR system Quality control / customer feedback People Leadership & Management Lead and motivate the team to deliver excellent customer service and products Overall management of all staff and volunteers Staff appraisals and one to one meetings. Ensuring staff have adequate training to be excellent at their jobs. Emergency Accommodation Management (Working with the Director and Chaplain) Ensure appropriate levels of support for young people that stay with us. Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place to promote the wellbeing and safety of vulnerable young people. Implement a training process for staff so that they are equipped to work with challenging young people in a positive and supportive way. General

PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications None Experience Experience of working in a customer service focussed environment. Experience of working at a supervisor or management level in the catering / events / hospitality industry. Experience of client liaison. Experience of managing a team. Experience of training others. Experience of working with young people, particularly those who are vulnerable. Abilities and Skills A good understanding of Food Safety and Health and Safety regulation and good practice. Able to influence people and lead people around a vision. Able to create a relaxed and friendly environment for customers / clients. Good at working as part of a team, but also the ability to work to own initiative. A strong interest offering opportunities to young people. Able to manage stock to maximise revenue and minimise waste. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Good people skills, both in terms of colleagues, but also customers. Resilient and able to deal with a high pressure environment. Competent and comfortable in the use of IT / software (including Microsoft office, social media packages, EPOS) Committed to supporting young people to develop skills and experience. Willingness to undertake appropriate training and education as part of a commitment to continued professional development. Creative flair with an eye for great presentation. An eye for details. Additional Information The post holder will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure and work within a safeguarding framework. The post holder will be required to undertake safeguarding training and first aid training. The post holder will be required to wear clothing appropriate to the role.
