How to Research a Niche Market By: Reed Floren Each step is worth one point for researching your niche market with a maximum of 27 points. We are focused on providing validation that people are rabidly looking for this content online and are willing to spend money to get answers to their problem. By looking at a lot of major mainstream sites and seeing if they have anything related to your topic it shows you that there is competition and competition is a good thing. We aren t in the business of creating crappy search engine optimized blogs we are in the business of creating high quality information products that people want to spend money on. If people are spending their time and money to put something out there then it often means there are consumers who are looking to buy products or services in that market. If your niche hits most of these 27 points you are in great shape and should start researching exactly what your market wants and create the next best seller in the niche. Required: Pick a broad category from one of the following niches Health and Fitness Finance/Money Making/Wealth/Biz Opp/IM Dating/Relationship/Self Improvement Hobbies/Special Interests (Golf, Fishing, Dogs) My broad category is: Step 2. Have you bought any products in these broad niches? (preferably online) I ve personally bought products in all of those niches online in this order Finance, Self Improvement, Fitness and Hobbies. Passion isn t required but highly recommended especially when you are just starting out, not to dampen your mood but things can and will go wrong when you are selling products on the internet and it s a lot more fun to be in a market you love when the going gets tough then it is to stick with something that you hate. Yes, I have purchased products in this niche Step 3. Go to http://www.clickbank.com and click on Marketplace https://accounts.clickbank.com/marketplace.htm On the left hand side is a red menu bar that has various categories I clicked on Business/Investing and then I clicked on Equities & Stocks Now I could just stick with stock market as a niche but it s easier make money when you go deeper into a niche market.

By default this shows the current top 10 best selling products in the stock market niche on ClickBank. I found that penny stocks, stock picks and binary option trading are the current hot offers in the marketplace. I choose penny stocks as the niche to do more research on. My niche to research is: You may want to take note at what price products are selling at and if they seem to have a recurring membership fee Step 4. Required: Go to http://www.dummies.com and search for your niche. In a nutshell if there is a Dummies book there is a market of some sort. Take note of the table of contents for the book this is a goldmine! If there is no Dummies book yet write the niche down as one to investigate later but go back to step 3 and see if there are any other hot sub- niches in your market. If they have a Dummies book continue. If not go back to step 1. Yes, there is a For Dummies book in my niche Step 5. Search http://www.google.com for your niche. In my case I searched for penny stocks are there any advertisements? What kind of sites are ranking in the top 10? Do they sell info products? Do they have an email list? Yes, there are sites that are advertising on Google on my niche

Step 6. Search http://www.bing.com for penny stocks are there any advertisements? What kind of sites are ranking in the top 10? Do they sell info products? Do they have an email list? Yes, there are sites that are advertising on Bing in my niche Step 7. Go to http://www.amazon.com and search the Magazines section for your niche In my example I couldn t find anything specific to penny stocks but there are plenty of personal finance and stock market magazines Make a list of the magazines in your marketplace. Yes, there are magazines related to my niche Step 8. Search http://www.amazon.com especially the Kindle section to see what other products are selling online in your niche. Make notes of some of the most popular

information products and pay special attention to the negative reviews this way you can find out what the market feels they are missing. Yes, there are information products for sale on Amazon.com Here are some of the negative aspects of the information products: Step 9. Search http://www.wikipedia.org for your niche. Is there a page dedicated to your topic? Yes, there is a Wikipedia page dedicated to my topic Step 10. Go to http://www.about.com is there a topic dedicated to your niche? If not do they at least have articles? Yes, there is an About.com topic dedicated to my topic or at least articles Step 11. Does http://www.dmoz.org have a category or at least sites on your niche?

Yes, there are sites/category about my niche on DMOZ Step 12. Search http://www.ebay.com what products are being sold in your niche? Yes, there are products for sale on ebay in my niche Step 13. Look at http://www.ezinearticles.com do they have a section dedicated to your niche? Are there articles on your niche? Yes, there is an area dedicated to my niche or related articles Step 14. Are there any videos on http://www.youtube.com related to your niche? Yes, there are videos on YouTube related to my niche

Step 15. Are there any sites for sale on http://www.flippa.com in your niche? Or have there been any for sale? Yes, there have been sites for sale on Flippa in my niche Step 16. Any articles on http://www.ehow.com for your niche? Yes, there are articles on ehow for my niche Step 17. Are there any videos on http://www.howcast.com for your niche? Yes, there are videos for my niche on HowCast.com

Step 18. Are there any articles on http://www.howstuffworks.com for your niche? Yes, there are articles on HowStuffWorks.com for my niche Step 19. Are there any articles on http://www.howtodothings.com for your niche? Yes, there are articles on HowToDoThings.com for my niche Step 20. Go to http://www.wikihow.com do they have any information on your niche? Yes, WikiHow has information on my niche Step 21. Do a http://www.google.com search for your niche topic and forums penny stock forums forums are a great indicator that people are passionate about a topic

Oftentimes you can see what people are asking questions about in your niche these can be wonderful tidbits of information to add to your product. Yes, there are Google Groups related to my niche Step 23. Search http://groups.yahoo.com for Yahoo groups related to your niche. Yes, there are Yahoo groups related to my niche Step 24. Search http://answers.yahoo.com for your niche and make note of the questions/answers people are giving out in your niche. This is like surveying your customers without having to spend the time and money to find them.

In a big city or worldwide for your niche? Yes, there are Meetups related to my niche Step 26. Go to http://www.facebook.com and do a search for Pages named "penny stocks" are there any pages in your niche? If they have lots of members that s a plus! Yes, there are Facebook Pages related to my niche Step 27. Go to http://www.facebook.com and do a search for Groups named "penny stocks" are there any groups in your niche? If they have lots of members that s a plus!

Bonus Steps to Really Understand Your Market Step 28. Go to https://adwords.google.com/ko/keywordplanner/home (you will need an Adwords advertiser account but it s free you don t need to buy any ads). This will give you an idea of how often your niche is searched for and give you an idea of how competitive the niche is. I like to be in high competition niche markets because we AREN T focused on creating spammy search engine optimized blogs to rank instead we are focused on created high quality products we can advertise on those sites. Or better yet convince them to be affiliates of ours. Step 29. On one of the first steps we looked at Magazines in your niche. Find the websites for those magazines and look for an area to advertise or what is called a media kit this will give you a treasure trove of demographic information on your ideal customer. Based on this data, describe your ideal customer (age, sex, income, etc): Step 30. Research some of the top sites/products in your niche on http://www.quantcast.com this will give you more demographic information. According to Quantcast what does the audience profile look like for your competitors websites :

Step 31. Research some of the top sites/products in your niche on http://www.alexa.com this will give you more demographic information. According to Alexa what does the audience profile look like for your competitors websites?: Step 32. Go to http://advertising.facebook.com and create a dummy advertisement to see if you can market to people who say they like your niche. Or target specific groups/pages in your niche if they have lots members. Do not save the ad or make it go live unless you already have a website of your own in the niche. Just make a note of how much you can pay per click on Facebook. Many profitable niches can get you as much highly targeted traffic as you can handle for $1 or less a click. Step 33. Join Help A Reporter Out http://www.helpareporter.com/ this is a great free resource to get interviewed on your topic or to find people you can interview for your website/product. On my first time trying this I got quoted for the cover story of a national magazine, which is a great way to create credibility. Step 34. Join the http://www.directoryofezines.com this is a $197 lifetime fee but shows you a ton of newsletters/ezines you can advertise to in your marketplace. Don t join this until after your product is making sales. If you are starting you should put the $197 into graphics, sales copy, domains, hosting, autoresponder, product creation, pay per click traffic, etc to test your idea.
