During the last year over 100,000 people visited the Albany and used its facilities, including audiences of over 25,000 for more than 200 events. The Albany has four performance spaces, including its unique central performance space, with a capacity of 300 seated and 500 for standing events. The Albany s programme encompasses music, a range of theatre and dance, spoken word, exhibitions and comedy, as well as an array of educational, training and community-based projects. Its other facilities include a café bar, rehearsal, workshop and meeting rooms for hire, office space for 15 resident companies and a recording studio. The catering department includes two daytime cafes with lunch offers as well as a café bar and a theatre bar for live events. It further provides catering services to room bookers and theatre hirers as well as catering for external and in-house functions. The food and drinks menu aims to reflect the cultural diversity of the borough and prioritises the use of locally sourced, organic and fair-trade produce. The department is rapidly expanding and with the a busy Autumn season we are looking to recruit a Café Bar to work the events scheduled. About the role You will play a key role in delivering excellent presentation, sales and delivery of the food and drinks offer at the Albany café and bar; in providing the highest quality of customer care and in making all visitors feel welcome. In particular you will focus your work in the café and theatre bar at the Albany and the bar at Canada Water Culture Space. The role will be best suited to someone with previous bar experience who takes pride in their work and excels under pressure in a fast paced environment. The position requires a passion for customer service and a hardworking and dedicated attitude. You will need to be an extremely flexible person who can prioritise and manage their time and workload. The ability to think on your feet and work under pressure is essential.
Job Purpose To provide a high quality food and drinks service to our customers To prepare serve and sell food and drink ensuring a welcoming, friendly and inclusive atmosphere To support the delivery of a diverse menu of drinks and food and maintain a clean and safe working environment To work with other staff to ensure all visitors have a satisfying experience at our venue Main Responsibilities and Duties Provide a confident and efficient customer service and encourage feedback Be pro-active in promoting sales and maintaining customers in order to meet sales targets Ensure the café / bar is welcoming, presentable and safe at all times Prepare and present the daily food/drinks offer as appropriate for the time of the day / type of customers it is serving Serve customers food, drinks, alcoholic beverages and other products Maintain a good knowledge of the café and bar menu and advise customers on their choices Correctly process sales through the till, handle cash and card payments; cash up at the end of the shift rectifying and/or explaining any discrepancies Maintain high level of accuracy and security with the float and takings Ensure daily checks, opening/ closing procedures and cleaning routines are carried out as directed and that all Food Hygiene and Health & Safety standards are complied with Set up and clean tables, chairs, counter and display areas; clear used crockery, use dishwasher and put away clean crockery, cutlery, glasses and equipment Ensure alcohol is sold in line with the Licensing Act 2003 and the Think 25 policy Assist with checking deliveries and their correct storage Maintain high levels of personal hygiene and wear safe work clothing Assist with refreshments at private functions and at other points of sale as necessary Be aware of the emergency evacuation procedures and assist other staff and the public in an evacuation Monitor and limit wastage, recycling where possible Ensure to feed back all relevant information, incidents and comments from customers to the Café Bar and the Kitchen Supervisor (Maternity Cover) as appropriate Maintain a knowledge of the Albany s programme and events General Duties Support the aims and objectives of the Albany both internally and externally.
