Purpose of Position: To meet the needs of students by providing high quality, client focused teaching and learning opportunities. To contribute to the goals and objectives of the Polytechnic by demonstrating professional competence that builds quality, reputation and growth. TPP prepares students for leadership roles, which involves the development of complex skills that can often be developed best by real-life active learning experiences, collaborative problem solving, and exposure to challenging situations through experiential learning. Background: has a long and successful history of working with the New Zealand Industrial Rope Access industries in the development and delivery of high quality training and assessment The new NZQA post TROQ New Zealand certificate qualifications at levels 3, 4, & 4 were introduced in early 2017. Tai Poutini is in the process of transitioning to the new qualifications and busy developing the new programmes of study complete with training resources and assessments. We provide training to the Rope Access Industry nationwide. The majority of our students are currently employed in the industry and attend regular training workshops. These workshops are normally offered from our Christchurch, Wellington of Auckland Campuses.

Professional Development plan documented, discussed and agreed with Programme Leader/ HOD and includes progression towards achievement of relevant qualifications Observations of teaching are carried out at least twice a year, as per Polytechnic Policy and feedback responded to Action Plan based on student feedback for continuous improvement is developed in conjunction with the Lead Tutor /Programme Leader / HOD Primary subject area is updated annually to current trends, industry and NZQA requirements

3 NON TEACHING DUTIES Research and preparation of teaching notes and materials Both T1 and T2 Staff: Lesson plans, teaching notes and materials are developed and kept for all courses/programmes T2 Staff: Design and implement small scale research into effective teaching and/or learning within own discipline Demonstrate professional activities which contribute in a positive way to the reputation of the polytechnic/profession e.g. research, consultancy, publication Pastoral Care Manage student queries or issue resolution processes to ensure appropriate actions and decisions are arrived at and communicated to all concerned and refer as appropriate Ensure any student disciplinary processes are followed and refer as appropriate Provide encouragement and support to students as appropriate Staff Mentoring (T2 Staff) Guide and support T1 staff to develop identified skills and attributes Marketing and Recruitment Be actively involved and assist in the promotion of their programmes, which may include, expos, open days/nights, school visits and student for a day Teaching plans and resources are developed and centrally filed Research is undertaken as negotiated Students have access to tutors and pastoral care as required Any student with special needs requirements are referred to the appropriate service Variations including absence are reported to Programme Leader/HOD and according to Polytechnic Policy Regular meetings held with T1 staff member following an agreed plan of action Feedback from T1 staff member on effectiveness of mentoring Interviews, enrolments and inductions are completed and documented Travel Travel arrangements are confirmed and organised with the Programme Leader Teaching Areas All venues and teaching areas are set up prior to students arriving and are adequately equipped and resourced to ensure professional delivery Cost effective and efficient use of resources through planned and timely organisation Feedback from students

Be a part of any programme development for new programmes or programmes that are changing to ensure that all materials are up to date and changes communicated Resource and develop materials associated with academic delivery as appropriate Printing and selection of all course materials Tutor survey results indicate appropriate planning, implementation and assessment Logistics and Resources Completion of logistical and resource arrangements prior to the training Selection and preparation of gear and equipment before each course and check and restore after each course Travel Travel arrangements are confirmed and organised with the Programme Leader Time, location, access, H & S requirements etc are confirmed and communicated prior to training delivery. Cost effective and efficient use of resources through planned and timely organisation.

5 Teaching Areas All venues and teaching areas are set up prior to students arriving and are adequately equipped and resourced to ensure professional delivery Course marketing and assessment Demonstrates ongoing and effective support of student learning Provide appropriate and on-going feedback, including robust formative and summative assessment. Complete student assessment and feedback effectively and in line with the s policy and programme/course requirements. Student assessments are carried out in line with Programme/Course requirements and action is taken to improve effectiveness of assessment. Academic standards in courses are consistent with strategy and policy expectations and are monitored and improved. Academic quality and administration deadlines are met. Participate in, and comply with, assessment policy, validation and quality control procedures. Complete, comply and meet the requirement standards of the moderation and External Evaluation Reports policies. Audit Activities Ensure that full security and confidentiality is maintained of all student information assessment information, etc Work to deliver the agreed plan of QA activities e.g., annual programme reports, internal and external moderation requirements etc Implement moderation recommendations / requirements Implement Audit and Programme Annual Self-Assessment (PASA) requirements Feedback from students All students are provided with ongoing feedback of their progress and achievements including robust formative and summative assessments. Student assessments and feedback are constantly completed in a timely manner and comply with the s policy and programme/course requirements and achievable action is taken to improve effectiveness of assessment. Academic standards in courses are consistent with strategy and policy expectations and are monitored and improved at all times. Actively participate in, and comply with, assessment policy, validation and quality control procedures. Comply and meet the requirement standards of the moderation and External Evaluation Reports policies at all times. Assessments meet moderation standards and are valid and reliable Audit and PASA implemented in a timely manner

7 Health and Safety Other Take all practicable steps to ensure the Employee s health, safety and welfare. Comply with the requirements of any safety codes set down from time to time by the Employer, or by the Department of Labour. If the Employee is in any way involved in an accident while engaged in work for the Employer, he/she agrees to advise the Employer of the details of any such accident without delay. The Employee will log any incident or injury that has occurred in the accident register provided by the Employer on the day the accident occurs. 8 Person Specification: As Tutor Minerals, Energy and Infrastructure Industries, you must have or be prepared to work towards: Have a relevant professional or vocational qualification appropriate to the position, preferably a level 4 rope access qualification or higher and hold a IRAANZ Certificate of Competence. Up-to-date knowledge and experience within the Industrial Rope Access Industry Have a passion for passing on their knowledge and skills and the capability to develop /learn about educational delivery and quality. Great energy, motivational skills. Be competent in (or prepared to learn) the use of Word, E-mail, Excel and other common management and administrative software tools. Hold or be working towards Unit Standards 4098 Use standards to assess candidate performance, 11552 Design Assessment and 11551 Moderate assessment (or equivalent). Hold or be working towards a minimum teaching qualification such as National Certificate in Adult Education and Training (Level 5) or equivalent. Be able to demonstrate clear and effective written and oral communication skills that will enable consistent communication with colleagues, industry, community, other stakeholders, and students. Be willing and able to maintain effective collaborative networks amongst industry and other providers. Strong planning, communication and reporting skills, with the ability to self-manage A current NZ drivers licence and the ability to travel within New Zealand. Hold a current driver's licence.
