SECTION 10505 - METAL STUDENT LOCKERS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE OF WORK A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections apply to this section. B. DESCRIPTION: Furnish and install Marquis-Heavy Duty Knock-Down Corridor Lockers, complete as shown and specified per the contract documents. Furnish and install Marquis-Heavy Duty Ventilated Knock-Down Athletic Lockers, complete as shown and specified per the contract documents. C. RELATED WORK SPECIFIED ELSEWHERE: 1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE 1. Division 3 Section Cast-In-Place Concrete for concrete locker bases. Bases to be installed by General Contractor coordinate requirements with General Contractor. 2. Division 6 Section Miscellaneous Carpentry for wood furring. Any wood furring required to be installed by General Contractor coordinate requirements with General Contractor. A. MANUFACTURING STANDARD: Provide metal lockers that are standard products of a single manufacturer, with interchangeable like parts. Include necessary mounting accessories, fittings, and fastenings. B. FABRICATOR QUALIFICATIONS: Firm experience (minimum 5 years) in successfully producing the type of metal lockers indicated for this project, with sufficient production capacity to produce required units without causing delay in the work. C. INSTALLER QUALIFICATIONS: Engage an experienced (minimum 5 years) installer who has successfully completed installation of the type of metal lockers and extent to that indicated for this project. D. GREENGUARD CERTIFICATION: Lockers shall be GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certified SM to be approved for this project. 1.03 SUBMITTALS A. GENERAL: - SUBMITTALS B. SHOP DRAWINGS: Submit drawings showing locker types, sizes, quantities, including all necessary details relating to anchoring, trim installation and relationship to adjacent surfaces. C. COLOR CHARTS: Provide color charts showing manufacturer's full range available colors (minimum 24). Provide metal samples if requested. D. NUMBERING: Locker numbering sequence will be provided by the approving authority and noted on approved shop drawings returned to the locker contractor. 1.04 PRODUCT HANDLING A. GENERAL: All work shall be fabricated in ample time so as to not delay construction process. B. DELIVERY: All materials shall be delivered to the site at such a time as required for proper coordination of the work. Materials are to be received in the manufacturer's original, unopened packages and shall bear the manufacturer's label. C. STORAGE: Store all materials in a dry and well ventilated place adequately protected from the elements. 1.05 GUARANTEE A. WARRANTY: Warranty shall be a minimum of two years on both materials and workmanship PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MATERIALS A. AVAILABLE MANUFACTURERS: Provide all lockers and related accessories through one source from a single manufacturer. TYPES A & B: Basis of design shall be Marquis -Heavy Duty Student Knock-Down Corridor Lockers as manufactured by List Industries. TYPE C: Basis of design shall be Marquis-Heavy Duty Ventilated Athletic Lockers as manufactured by List Industries. Subject to compliance with the design, material, method of fabrication and installation as required in this specification section or modified as shown on drawings, the following manufacturers products are acceptable. Steel Sheet: All sheet steel used in fabrication shall be prime grade free from scale and imperfections and capable of taking a heavy coat of high gloss baked enamel. 1. General: Cadmium, zinc or nickel plated steel; bolt heads, slotless type; self-locking nuts or lock washers. 1. Hardware: Hooks and hang rods of cadmium plated or zinc plated steel or cast aluminum. 2.02 FABRICATION 2. Handle: Seamless drawn stainless steel recessed handle. 3. Number Plates: To be polished aluminum with not less that 3/8" high etched numbers attached to door with two aluminum rivets. 4. Hat Shelves, Horizontal Intermediate Shelves and Bottoms: Shall be 16 gauge cold rolled sheet steel. 24 gauge will not be accepted. A. GENERAL (TYPE A & B): Lockers shall be "Marquis -Heavy Duty Student Knock-Down Corridor Lockers " as manufactured by LIST Industries or approved equal. Fabricate lockers square, rigid and without warp, with metal faces flat and free from dents or distortion. Make all exposed metal edges safe to touch. Weld frame members together to form rigid, one-piece structure. Weld, bolt, or rivet other joints and connections as standard with manufacturer. Grind exposed welds flush. Do not expose bolts or rivet heads on fronts of locker doors or frames except for fastening of number plates and recessed handle. GENERAL (TYPE C): Lockers shall be "Marquis-Heavy Duty Ventilated Athletic Lockers" as manufactured by LIST Industries or approved equal. Fabricate lockers square, rigid and without warp, with metal faces flat and free from dents or distortion. Make all exposed metal edges safe to touch. Weld frame members together to form rigid, one-piece structure. Weld, bolt, or rivet other joints and connections as standard with manufacturer. Grind exposed welds flush. Do not expose bolts or rivet heads on fronts of locker doors or frames except for fastening of number plates and recessed handle. B. FINISH: All locker parts to be cleaned and coated after fabrication with a seven stage zinc/iron phosphate solution to inhibit corrosion, followed by a coat of high grade enamel electrostatically sprayed and baked at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of 30 minutes to provide a tough durable finish. Color to be selected from manufacturer's standard list of colors. Interior components to be painted #729 Parchment. Two-Tone Color Combination: Shall be at no additional cost with the locker frame and trim chosen from one color and the doors may be one of any other color chosen from manufacturers standard selection. C. LOCKER VENTILATION SCHEDULE (TYPE A & B): 1. Doors: Shall be plain (non-louvered). Wardrobe doors shall include ventilating perforations in the top and bottom door flanges. 2. Sides: Locker sides shall be solid. 3. Backs, tops, bottoms, and intermediate shelves shall be solid. LOCKER VENTILATION SCHEDULE (TYPE C): 1. Doors: Wardrobe doors 20 high and higher to be perforated with 5/8 x 1 ½ diamonds. 2. Sides: Locker sides to be perforated with 5/8 x 1 ½ diamonds. 3. Backs, tops, bottoms, and intermediate shelves shall be solid. to D. LOCKER FRAME: Fabricate of 16 gauge (minimum) channels, with integral continuous door stop/strike formed on both latch and hinge side vertical members. Cross frame members of 16 gauge channel shapes, including intermediate cross frame members on double and triple tier (frames with doors over 18" high) lockers shall be securely welded to the vertical framing members to ensure rigidity. Rubber bumpers shall be provided cushion door closing. E. MARQUIS HDC DOOR (TYPE A & B): Doors to be fabricated from single sheet prime 14 gauge with single bends at top and bottom and double bends at the sides. Doors shall include a 3" wide 18 gauge full height channel door stiffener MIG welded to the hinge side of the door as well as to the top and bottom door return bends and spot welded to the inside of door face to form a rigid torque-free box reinforcement for the door. Doors to be solid. MARQUIS HDV DOOR (TYPE C): Doors to be fabricated from single sheet prime 14 gauge with single bends at top and bottom and double bends at the sides. Doors shall include a 3" wide 18 gauge full height channel door stiffener MIG welded to the hinge side of the door as well as to the top and bottom door return bends and spot welded to the inside of door face to form a rigid torque-free box reinforcement for the door. Doors to be perforated with a 5/8 x 1 ½ diamond pattern. F. MARQUIS DEEP-DRAWN SEAMLESS STAINLESS STEEL RECESSED HANDLE: All doors shall have a seamless drawn stainless steel recessed handle shaped to receive a padlock or built-in combination lock. The recessed handle shall be deep enough to have the lock be completely flush with the outer door face. Folded recessed cups will not be accepted. G. MARQUIS HDV DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY (TYPES A, B, & C): Doors shall be single point rigid non-moving positive latch by means of a heavy 11 gauge (minimum) latch securely welded to the 16 gauge vertical frame member at both the continuous door strike as well as the area where the frame is fastened to the side panel to prevent the latch and frame from twisting. The latch assembly must be made of a single piece of steel and have a padlock loop that inserts through the recess pan. The latch must be able to accept either a padlock or built-in combination lock. A pry resistant lug which inserts into the door shall be an integral part of the 11 gauge latch. A rubber bumper shall be securely attached to the latch. H. DOOR HINGES (TYPES A, B, & C): Shall be a 16 gauge full height piano hinge. I. MARQUIS HDC LOCKER BODY (TYPES A & B): Fabricate backs of 18 gauge (minimum) solid sheet, sides of 16 gauge (minimum) sheet steel with double flanged connections extending full height. Sides to be solid. Form top, bottom and intermediate tier dividers of 16 gauge (minimum) solid sheet steel with single return bends at all sides. Bolt top and bottom as well as horizontal tier dividers of wardrobe openings to front horizontal frame members at not less than two places in addition to side panels. Form hat shelves at 60 and 72 high single tier lockers of 16 gauge (minimum) sheet steel with single bends at sides and back and a double bend at front. MARQUIS HDV LOCKER BODY (TYPE C): Fabricate backs of 18 gauge (minimum) solid sheet, sides of 16 gauge (minimum) sheet steel with double flanged connections extending full height. Sides to be diamond perforated for added ventilation. Form top, bottom and intermediate tier dividers of 16 gauge (minimum) solid sheet steel with single return bends at all sides. bottom as well as horizontal tier dividers of wardrobe openings to front horizontal frame members at not less than two places in addition to side panels. Form hat shelves at 60 and 72 high single tier lockers of 16 gauge (minimum) sheet steel with single bends at sides and back and a double bend at front. J. LOCKER ACCESSORIES: PART 3 - EXECUTION 1. Equipment: Openings 60 and 72 shall include one hat shelf, one double hook and two single hooks. Openings 20 and 24 high shall include one double hook at 12 wide and wider. Openings 9 wide shall include two single hooks only. Openings 18 high and under include no hooks. 3. Finished End Panels: Shall be "Boxed" type formed from 16 gauge cold rolled steel with 1" O.D. double bends on sides and a single bend at top and bottom with no exposed holes or bolts. Lockers with slope tops will have end panels formed with slope at top to cover the ends of the slope tops. Finish to match lockers. Provide at all exposed ends. 4. Fillers: Provide where indicated, of not less than 16 gauge sheet steel, factory fabricated and finished to match lockers. 4. Recessed Trim (TYPES A & B): Provide Manufacturer s standard 16 gauge recessed and side trim. 5. Continuous Sloped Tops (TYPE C): Provide continuous sloped tops fabricated of 16 gauge thick steel sheet. 6. Flush 4 C-Channel Locker Base (TYPES A, B, & C): For this project Metal 4 locker base must be C-Channel and Flush with the front of the lockers. Standard Z-BASE with Reveal/Set Back or 6 Legs will not be accepted. 7. Locker Room Benches : Manufacturer's standard laminated maple hardwood tops 9-1/2" wide by 1-1/4" thick, in lengths as indicated. Furnish List Industries Model No. #8032 heavy-duty cast iron pedestal supports (with concealed fasteners) not more than 6'-0" o.c., with provisions for fastening to the floor and securing to the bench. Furnish all anchorages. Apply manufacturer's standard clear coating to bench tops. Furnish benches in quantities and sizes as shown on the drawings. 8. Locks: By Owner 3.01 INSTALLATION A. GENERAL: Installation shall be in strict conformance with referenced standards, the manufacturer's written directions, as shown on the drawings and as herein specified. B. PLACEMENT: Lockers shall be set in place, plumb, level, rigid, flush and securely attached to the wall (or bolted together if back-to-back) and anchored to the floor or base according to manufacturer's specifications. C. ANCHORAGE: About 48" o.c., unless otherwise recommended by manufacturer, and apply where necessary to avoid metal distortion, using concealed fasteners. Friction cups are not acceptable. D. TRIM: Sloping tops, metal fillers and boxed end panels shall be installed using concealed fasteners. Provide flush, hairline joints against adjacent surfaces. 3.02 ADJUSTMENT A. GENERAL: Upon completion of installation, inspect lockers and adjust as necessary for proper door operation. Touch-up scratches and abrasions to match original finish.
