1 Query No.1 ; we need more specs. about fire resistant doors Answer to Query No. 1: The fire resistance required for doors in this building is 1 (one) hour resistance in compliance with the below general specifications: Pressed Steel Doors (Fire Rated) (a) General: (i) Provide doors of sizes, thicknesses, and designs indicated. (ii) Doors shall be constructed as follows: Face Panels 1.2 mm good commercial quality, mild steel sheets. Channels at perimeter 1.6 mm, channel reinforcement areas1.2 mm in void at 200 mm centers. All channels shall be welded to face panels. Reinforcement for hinges and other ironmongery shall be welded in place. Internal spaces of doors shall be filled with inorganic fiber glass. (b) Interior Doors: Provide doors complying with requirements as per ANSI and ANSI A250.4, heavy-duty, seamless, minimum 1.2mm thick cold-rolled sheet steel faces. (c) Exterior Doors: Provide doors complying with requirements as per ANSI A250.8 and ANSI A250.4, extra-heavy duty, seamless, minimum 1.5mm thick galvanized sheet steel faces. (d) Vision Lite Systems: Manufacturer's standard kits consisting of glass lite moldings to accommodate glass thickness and size of vision lite indicated. (e) Hardware Reinforcement: Fabricate reinforcing plates from the same material as door to comply with the following: (i) Hinges: 4.2 mm thick by 40 mm wide by 150 mm longer than hinge, secured by not less than 6 spot welds. (ii) Lock face, flush bolts, closers and concealed holders: 2.4 mm thick. (iii) All other surface mounted hardware: 1.3 mm thick. (f) All doors must have an STC rating of minimum 40.

2 (g) All fire rated doors shall have mineral fibre board composite construction and have intumescent seals and astragals and fire seals at places as needed and directed. 2.2 Frames (a) General: Provide steel frames for doors, and other openings that comply with ANSI A250.8 or with BS 1245 and with details indicated for type, profile and sizes shown on door schedules and drawings. Conceal fastenings, unless otherwise indicated. Fabricate frames from 1.6mm good commercial quality, mild steel sheets. Hinge reinforcement to be 4 mm steel flat bar welded to frame. Frame to have temporary base tie. Provide mortar guards at cutout (ironmongery) at back of frames. Provide two rubber buffers in stops of each door frame. (b) Door Silencers: Except on weather-stripped frames, fabricate stops to receive three silencers on strike jambs of single-door frames and two silencers on heads of double-door frames. (c) Plaster Guards: Provide 0.4-mm thick, steel sheet plaster guards or mortar boxes to close off interior of openings; place at back of hardware cutouts where mortar or other materials might obstruct hardware operation. (d) Supports and Anchors: Fabricated from not less than 1.0-mm thick, electrolytic zinc-coated or metallic-coated steel sheet. (e) Inserts, Bolts, and Fasteners: Manufacturer's standard units. Where zinccoated items are to be built into exterior walls, comply with ASTM A 153/A 153M, Class C or D, as applicable. 2.4 Hardware (a) All hardware shall be approved by the Engineer prior to installation. Provide heavy-duty hardware units as per Section on Door Hardware. 2.5 Fabrication (a) General: Fabricate steel door and frame units to comply with ANSI A250.8 and to be rigid, neat in appearance, and free from defects including warp and buckle. Where practical, fit and assemble units in manufacturer's plant. Clearly identify work that cannot be permanently factory assembled before shipment, to assure proper assembly at Project Site. (b) Core Construction: Manufacturer's standard honeycomb, polyurethane, polystyrene, unitized steel grid, vertical steel stiffeners, or rigid mineral fiber core with internal sound deadener on inside of face sheets where appropriate in accordance with SDI standards. (i) Mineral fiberboard core to provide fire rating indicated.

3 (a) Clearances for Non-Fire-Rated Doors: Not more than 3.2 mm at jambs and heads, except not more than 6.4 mm between pairs of doors. Not more than 20 mm at bottom. (b) Clearances for Fire-Rated Doors: As required by NFPA 80. (c) Tolerances: Comply with SDI 117, "Manufacturing Tolerances for Standard Steel Doors and Frames." (d) Fabricate concealed stiffeners, reinforcement, edge channels, louvers, and moldings from either cold- or hot-rolled steel sheets. (e) Exposed Fasteners: Unless otherwise indicated, provide countersunk flat or oval heads for exposed screws and bolts. (f) Hardware Preparation: Prepare doors and frames to receive mortised and concealed hardware according to final door hardware schedule and templates provided by hardware supplier. Comply with applicable requirements in ANSI A250.6 and ANSI A115 Series specifications for door and frame preparation for hardware. (i) For concealed overhead door closers, provide space, cutouts, reinforcement, and provisions for fastening in top rail of doors or head of frames, as applicable. (g) Frame Construction: Fabricate frames to shape shown. (h) Reinforce doors and frames to receive surface-applied hardware. Drilling and tapping for surface-applied hardware may be done at Project Site. (i) Locate hardware as indicated on Shop Drawings or, if not indicated, according to ANSI A (j) Astragals: As required by NFPA 80 to provide fire ratings indicated. 2.6 Finishes (a) Prime Finish: Manufacturer's standard, factory-applied baked on, rustinhibiting primer complying with ANSI A (b) Factory apply finish coat to doors as per Section on Painting. 3. Execution 3.1 Examination (a) Verify that surfaces are ready for installation of Door Frames. Examine substrates, with installer present, to determine if they are in satisfactory condition to receive door frames. Substrates must be free of oil, grease, loose mill scale, dirt or other foreign substances capable of impairing proper installation of under conditions of normal use or fire exposure.

4 (b) Verify that all accessory items, required for installation of Doors and Frames and recommended by manufacturers, are available on site. (c) Verify that ducts, piping, equipment, or other items which would interfere with installation are not positioned until the work is complete. 3.2 Installation (a) General: Install pressed steel doors, frames, and accessories according to Shop Drawings, manufacturer's data, and as specified. (b) Sequence and co-ordinate Installations of Frames & Doors work with other related work specified in other sections to comply with requirements. (c) Placing Frames: Comply with provisions in SDI 105, unless otherwise indicated. Set frames accurately in position, plumbed, aligned, and braced securely until permanent anchors are set. After wall construction is completed, remove temporary braces and spreaders, leaving surfaces smooth and undamaged. (i) Except for frames located in existing walls or partitions, place frames before construction of enclosing walls and ceilings. (ii) In masonry construction, provide at least three wall anchors per jamb; install adjacent to hinge location on hinge jamb and at corresponding heights on strike jamb. Acceptable anchors include masonry wire anchors and masonry T-shaped anchors. (iii) For openings 2250 mm or more in height, install an additional anchor at hinge and strike jambs. (iv) Install fire-rated frames according to NFPA 80. (d) Door Installation: Pressed steel doors shall be installed in frames in true alignment with proper clearance and with ironmongery as scheduled. Comply with ANSI A Fit hollow-metal doors accurately in frames, within clearances specified in ANSI A Shim as necessary to comply with SDI 122 and ANSI/DHI A115.1G. (i) Fire-Rated Doors: Install within clearances specified in NFPA 80. (ii) Smoke-Control Doors: Install to comply with NFPA 105. (e) Re-inspect the installed Doors and Frames for integrity of work, after installation of subsequent work. (f) Have the completed work inspected in all aspects, as per requirements, by the Engineer, work being carried out to his satisfaction. 3.3 Adjusting, Cleaning & Protection (a) Prime-Coat Touchup: Immediately after installation, sand smooth any rusted or damaged areas of prime coat and apply touch up of compatible airdrying primer.

5 (b) Protection Removal: Immediately before final inspection, remove protective wrappings from doors and frames, but protect from damage until Substantial Completion of Works. (c) Final Adjustments: Check and readjust operating hardware items, leaving steel doors and frames undamaged and in complete and proper operating condition. (d) Clean Door Frames from mortar and plaster; leave all work clean following installation. The Contractor shall be responsible for protecting the complete work from excessive dirt, misuse and damage. Any damage shall be repaired/replaced, as directed by the Engineer and in accordance with manufacturer instructions, all at the Contractor s expense
