For general construction purposes, is to be done by fencing around the existing tree(s) using the tree s drip line as a guide. For construction that includes excavation work, a chain trencher (not a backhoe) is to be used to cut a trench a minimum of 36 deep around the tree, again using the drip line as a guide. B. Excavation within the Drip Line of Trees
III. 1. Any scheduled excavation which abuts the drip line (the area under the canopy or branches of the tree) is to be trenched first around the tree using the drip line as a guide. This is to be accomplished with a chain trencher (not a backhoe) cutting a 36 minimum deep trench. Consult University Maintenance Department if more than 30% of the root area is to be removed C.
