RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) POLICY 2016
RPL Policy Dear Prospective RPL candidate, The assessment of current competence/ recognition of prior learning (RPL) Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd has procedures for assessing and recognising prior learning. This includes procedures for the selection of potential RPL candidates and personnel and structures to support them through the RPL process. This process involves the identification, documentation, assessment, evaluation and transcription of prior learning against specified learning outcomes, so that such learning can articulate with admissions requirements to target programmes and be recognised for entry, exemption or accreditation purposes. The assessment instruments developed for RPL are designed and implemented in accordance with Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd policies on fair and transparent assessment. We attach some information on our RPL process, application forms and a checklist of requirements. RPL ASSESSMENT PROCESS The aim of the RPL process is to give people with industry experience and knowledge the opportunity to get recognition for their prior learning, without having to go via the formal academic route. Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd presents the National Certificate: Wealth Management: NQF Level 5, 120 credits, as part of its FAIS Fit and Proper curriculum. The Qualification have been divided into 4 skills programmes, and it is also these skills programmes that are used as basis for the RPL assessment. It is based on industry specific technical knowledge required to be fit and proper, and which presumably the RPL candidate had already mastered with industry experience and previous training. The RPL process is as follows: 1. APPLICATION Candidates apply for this process and provide evidence why he/she should be considered for the RPL process; Candidate completes the Registration form, agree to the requirements, and transfer the applicable fee to Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd (electronic transfers only, for your and our safety); Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd informs the candidate of approval of the RPL process and inform the candidate which requirements needs to be in place to proceed. 2. PREPARATION Candidate prepares for the assessment after a coaching / information session to discuss procedure and study unit requirements and has questions answered regarding the assessment and output requirements; Candidates are also given access to 4 online multiple choice exams, and 4 case studies to prepare which in essence tests all the study unit outcomes required;
During the coaching/information session, all paperwork is attended to as well, to not impede on the time allocated to the actual assessment session; Assessment policy and appeals procedure will also be discussed during the coaching/information session. 3. ASSESSMENT PROCESS Assessment, after the above requirements was successfully completed, to be done in the format of a "structured interview" by an Assessor and /Internal Moderator, will be conducted as follows: After the assessor have assessed the case studies previously referred to and the candidate found competent in these case studies as well as the online multiple choice exam, they will be invited to attend the group session; Groups are restricted to 5 candidates per session, to ensure that everyone is well tested on any additional technical knowledge and skills components required to finalise the assessment process; Assessment is done on ± 75 credits required, this forms part of the case studies and practical stand-up presentations by each member of the group (experience has shown that candidates as a rule have 60 credits already with matric and other qualifications); Assessor or Moderator will pose "structured" questions to the group and individuals, based on the specific outcomes of study units; The group can decide who will answer the question and give the answer; If the assessor or moderator feels that some individuals have not participated adequately, they may pose specific questions to those individuals; Candidates may not consult learning material during the assessment, but may discuss questions as a group, and supplement answers provided by other group members with their own input; After the assessment, the Assessor and Moderator will decide whether the candidates displayed enough technical knowledge, skill and industry experience to be declared competent in line with study unit requirements; The assessors and moderator involved in the session will evaluate and assess the content, technical know-how and skills displayed by the individual group members; Candidates will be informed of the assessment decision immediately and "Proof of Credits" will be issued to the successful candidates by Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd within 4 weeks; Candidates, who are judged "not yet competent", will be given feedback as to reasons for the decision. Re-assessment requirements will be discussed with the candidate, and a date is to be set for re-assessment; Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd sends the details of achieving the qualification through to INSETA for approval and loading onto the National Learner Data Base; Case Study portfolio of evidence need to be completed, assessed and retained as proof of achievement.
4. REQUIREMENTS Requirements are based on INSETA guidelines for RPL assessments and have to be adhered to. We would much rather have you comply with these now than having your assessment deemed invalid at a later stage. 4.1 Eligibility Candidates applying for RPL assessment should have at least 10 years + proven insurance industry experience, and / or some insurance industry or other qualifications that they would like to put to RPL assessment process and use towards a full insurance industry qualification. All candidates are required to individually motivate their eligibility for RPL assessment in a separate letter on a company letterhead, before final approval for RPL may be granted by Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd. Corporate letters motivating applications for groups of candidates can unfortunately not be accepted. Even though the assessment is done in group format, the RPL assessment is essentially based on an individual's deemed competence. Letters of competence are also issued to an individual and not to a company. 4.2 Required Documentation All items to be brought to the information session (IF APPLICABLE) which will be held prior to the RPL session: Completed Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd application form; Required fees; A letter in which you personally apply, and motivate, your eligibility for RPL assessment; Proof of similar qualification in the Financial Services Industry (not older than 2 years); A brief CV, highlighting your career, industry experience and career highlights with special focus on insurance industry achievements; Original certified copy of ID Document / valid SA Passport; Original certified copy of matric certificate; Original certified copies of all other qualifications, especially industry related qualifications. 5. SUBJECT DISPENSATION Dispensation is granted for the following, and these subjects do not form part of the RPL assessment: Matric certificate with Math's and English / Afrikaans / Indigenous SA official languages as subjects: 30 Credits Industry related qualifications: (i.e. Trustee qualification through FSB, etc.): 30 Credits Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd can assist you with this process for an additional R450 administration fee. Individual cases can be discussed during the information session to establish number of credits. Please consult with Integrity Academy (Pty) Ltd should you not comply (i.e. Math's not one of the matric subjects, or matric equivalent obtained overseas.)
6. FEES: R7 800 all-inclusive per candidate for the 75 credit session A National Certificate: Wealth Management: NQF 5, 120 credits is awarded to candidates who comply with pre-assessment requirements and completes the RPL assessment successfully, which should satisfy the FAIS Act, fit and proper requirements for at least 5 years. 7.
