PMBOK Overview A Guide to the Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), created by the Institute (PMI), is the sum of knowledge within the profession of project management. The complete Body of Knowledge includes proven traditional practices that are widely applied, as well as innovative emerging practices for the profession with widespread consensus as to their value and usefulness. The PMBOK framework consists of five process groups, ten knowledge areas and 48 project management (PM) processes. The knowledge areas group the PM processes by project management content. Integration Scope Time Cost Quality Develop Charter Develop Preliminary Scope Statement Develop Plan Direct and Manage Execution Monitor and Work Integrated Change Close Scope Scope Definition Create WBS Scope Verification Scope Activity Definition Activity Sequencing Activity Resource, Activity Duration Schedule Development Schedule Cost Cost Budgeting Cost Assurance Human Resources Human Resource Acquire Team Develop Team Manage Team Information Distribution Performance Reporting Stakeholder Risk Risk Risk Identification Qualitative Risk Analysis Quantitative Risk Analysis Risk Response Risk Monitoring and Procurement Plan Purchases and Acquisitions Plan Contracting Request Seller Responses Select Sellers Contract Administration Contact Closeout Stakeholder Identify Stakeholder Plan Stakeholder Manage Stakeholder Stakeholder The process groups (Initiating,, Executing, ling and Closing) organize the more detailed PM processes over time. Therefore, the process groups represent project states at various different times from start to finish. Resources can be defined based on their skills and competencies. Timesheet to enter time and effort for progress control. Gantt charts to view the scheduled tasks and milestones with the option of exporting/importing Microsoft files. Tables, charts and graphs can be created to show schedule variance in both the traditional formula and obtained value. Planned vs. proposed Gantt schedule bars. Views provide filters to show work that is starting/ finishing late, estimates for completing changes, schedule variance changes, dependency changes, late timesheets, and more. Cost Cost Budgeting Cost Cost Financial feature to capture cost estimates and cost budgeting, cost centers and charge codes. The user can enter ratebased cost (standard rates and overtime rates) for a resource (people, equipment and material). The user can also import cost estimates from any Tables, charts and graphs can be used to show cost and budget variances, determine factors that might influence the project costs, and then appropriately manage change.
