IMDG CODE COURSE FOR SHIPPING BY SEA TRAINING INTRODUCTION & DESCRIPTION Transportation of dangerous substances and articles create opportunities for incidents that could release dangerous goods into the environment. An incident is any unintentional release of dangerous goods during the transport process, including loading and unloading Dangerous goods shipments are quite different with respect to other goods, since the risk associated with the accidental release of these materials during transportation is quite high. This is because these dangerous goods are extremely harmful to human health, since exposure to such dangerous chemical constituents may lead to injury or death. With growth in transportation of dangerous goods across the globe, regulatory authorities recognized the need to frame appropriate regulation for each of transportation in order to minimize the risk associated with such substances and articles. Classification, Identification, packaging, marking, labeling and documentation are some of the key elements of this Regulation. However for any regulation to be effective, awareness and training of the personnel involved in the transportation of dangerous goods is a very key essential element.
