Torrefied Wood TM Cladding & Trim WARRANTY against wood decay on solid stain 2 coats + on semi-transparent stain 2 coats extended warranty
WARRANTY against wood decay on solid stain 2 coats + extended warranty on semi-transparent stain 2 coats Unmatched stability & durability For heat-treated wood cladding that is guaranteed to stand the test of time, THOR Torrefied Wood offers amazing stability and durability. THOR Torrefied Wood is a thermally modified solid wood cladding product with a 60 year warranty against decay. The Torrefaction process provides THOR with exceptional performance characteristics to create a truly outstanding cladding material. The key benefits of thermally modified timber cladding Increased resistance to decay Intensive heat treatment changes the composition of the wood and removes the natural food sources to improve its resistance to fungal decay. THOR Torrefied Wood cladding does not require any further chemical protection. Increased dimensional stability The torrefaction process lowers the equilibrium moisture content, significantly reducing the chance of it warping, shrinking or expanding. Excellent water-repellence and weather protection The change in the molecular structure as a result of the heat treatment process reduces the permeability of the wood, providing excellent weather resistance. Environmentally friendly The 100% natural torrefaction process increases the durability of the wood and therefore extends its service life. The process also improves the woods thermal insulating properties. Wood torrefaction uses no harmful chemicals and water-based stains have low harmful volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.
Silva Timber is the exclusive UK distributor of THOR Torrefied Wood cladding. THOR Torrefied Wood cladding is manufactured in Canada by Maibec, one of North America s leading manufacturers of factory finished cladding products. THOR Torrefied Wood cladding can be supplied with a semi-transparent stain or a solid colour stain. The stain is factory coated on all six sides in a controlled environment for maximum stain absorption and retention. This also provides increased protection from weather damage including resistance against the sun s harmful rays. Why choose factory finished cladding? Finished cladding is protected from damage by weather Saves time and labour costs No costly delays due to weather No overspray, dripping, splattering or clean-up problems The site is neat and project looks finished immediately No colour variation, lap marks, shrink lines, streaking or dirt pick-up Semi-transparent stain Available brushed face with two coats of semi-transparent stain in Walnut, Mahogany or Cedar, enhancing the natural beauty of the grain. Semi-transparent stained THOR Torrefied Wood is supplied with a 60 year warranty on material, 3 year warranty on 2 coats of stain. Solid stain Available brushed face with two coats of solid colour stain in any colour imaginable. Solid stained THOR Torrefied Wood is supplied with a 60 year warranty on material, 15 year warranty on 2 coats of stain.
What is Torrefied Wood? Torrefaction is a 100% natural prolonged high heat treatment process that leaves wood amazingly stable and durable. Here s how it works: Preheating and drying First, the wood is gradually heated to approximately 130 o c for about 20 hours. This process equalises the material and lowers its moisture content to almost 0%. Intensive heat treatment The wood is then heated to about 200 o c to thermally modify its molecular structure. This procedure has three effects: It gives a rich natural amber colour to the wood The wood is much less affected by fluctuations in ambient humidity, giving it unmatched stability and durability The wood has much greater resistance to decay and insects Cooling and conditioning The temperature is then gradually lowered. During this phase, the controlled addition of water vapour brings the moisture level of the wood back to between 4-7%. This restores natural flexibility, making it easier to work with. How does torrefaction affect the molecular structure of wood? High Temperature Cellulose Hemi-Cellulose Lignin Tannins & Resins Crystallisation Degradation Crystallisation Evaporation/ Degradation Less attractive to Prevents water Fibre links tighten No bleeding fungi & insects Wood tone is altered absorption: minimal expansion, swelling & shrinkage No terpenes = less attractive for insects - Copyright - Maibec inc.
