Bracknell Forest is a dynamic Unitary Authority which has a vibrant local economy and contains the headquarters for companies such as Waitrose, Hewlett Packard, Dell and 3M. Job Description Department: Environment, Culture and Communities Division: Section: Planning and Transport Planning Job Title: Principal Planning Officer (Development Management) Grade/Salary Range: BG E JOB PURPOSE The postholder will be responsible for dealing with planning applications, including complex and major applications. The work will include handling appeals and planning obligations. The job may also require line management of up to two junior staff. DESIGNATION OF POST AND POSITION WITHIN DEPARTMENTAL STRUCTURE The post is within the Planning, Transport and Countryside Division of the Environment, Culture and Communities Department of the Council. The postholder will report to a Team Manager in the Planning Section. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. To manage a caseload of planning applications (and pre-application advice), including complex and major applications to meet performance targets. This work will include: examining, processing and evaluating applications, undertaking internal and external consultations, liaison and negotiation with applicants and their agents, making site visits, preparing reports and making recommendations with due regard to national and local policy and guidance, and, presenting applications to the Planning Committee. 2. Undertake planning appeal work which may include preparing written representations or statements of case and appearance at informal hearings and public inquiries. 3. Contribute to the improvement of the planning service and the development of planning policies. 4. Work pro-actively with applicants, agents and others who come into contact with planning to provide an efficient and user-friendly service. 5. Work Style / Parking This position is designated as home flex. This means that the post holder will be equipped to work from home with a secure laptop and mobile phone and will be expected to work from home at least one day a week. For some, when in the office, a desk share arrangement will be in place. The section is located in an open plan office in Bracknell town centre. There is very restricted parking at our town centre offices (Easthampstead House and Time Square). We are occasionally able to acquire additional car parking at other public town centre car parks.
