The ICT Department and Helpdesk are lcated in 12 Mertn St and can be accessed thrugh helpdesk@univ.x.ac.uk. Sykes I and II are lcated behind Gdhart Building ppsite the Treasury. Bth rms are interactive IT/AV suites which can be bked fr tutrial and student use thrugh the Dmestic Bursary Printing and phtcpying facilities can be fund acrss the main site including and als at Stavertn. These devlved facilities can be accessed thrugh single sign n. Any breach f these rules will mean immediate suspensin f the users accunt and the incident reprted, in the case f students, t the Dean; reinstatement f the accunt will nly be cnsidered after representatin frm the students persnal tutr. General Rules Use f cmputer equipment and sftware wned by Cllege r University is permitted fr bna fide academic and Cllege purpses nly, and is bund by the University s Cmputer Usage Rules and Etiquette. All users must act within the Data Prtectin legislatin. University Cllege accepts n liability fr any lss f data r cnsequential damage arising frm use f its cmputer systems. University Cllege reserves the right t mnitr and restrict the use f ANY cmputer cnnected t the Clleges netwrk. In sme cases f dispute, the Cllege reserves the right t take cpies f any hard disks cnnected t ANY cmputer invlved; this is fr yur wn prtectin as well as the Cllege s. This includes persnally wned cmputers.
Rules fr Cllege Cmputer Facilities Use Smking, drinking r eating is nt permitted in any f the cmputer rms r devlved printing facilities. Only the designated user f an accunt may use it. There are n shared accunts. Yu must nt let ther peple knw yur passwrd. N changes whatsever may be made t the sftware cnfiguratin f the cmputers. Lgged in wrkstatins must nt be left unattended this is a security risk and antiscial. All wrk must be backed up t remvable disk at the end f each sessin. Cllege makes NO cmmitment t preserve ANY user s data n the hard disks r server. This includes persnal cnfiguratin files and mail. Yu may NOT assume that any f yur files will be in yur accunt the next time that yu lg n. Cllege cmputer equipment may nt be used fr cmmercial purpses. N illegal activities may be carried ut using the Cllege equipment. N material that may cause ffence is t be accessed, viewed, stred r printed n the cmputer equipment, e.g. prngraphy. N hardware r sftware may be used which cmprmises the security f the netwrk r the privacy f users. D nt mve the cmputer units n the wrktps. This can upset the cabling, ptentially cmprmising the netwrk r preventing a wrkstatin frm perating. All users sftware must be remved frm the lcal hard disks at the end f each sessin, e.g. yur persnal files must be remved frm the C: drives. N cnnectins may be changed r made t any f the cmputer hardware withut specific cnsent The playing f games n Cllege facilities is frbidden. Users wishing t d wrk n the cmputers have pririty ver chat line users, Internet explrers etc. The sending f unslicited junk mail is frbidden e.g. chain letters. There is n reserving f terminals. Users are entitled t lg smene ff if they are nt in attendance in rder t use the terminals. Persnal belngings must nt be left in any f the IT/AV/Printer Rms. The cpying f licensed sftware frm the system is frbidden. Rules fr Netwrk Use N equipment ther than a single Ethernet card in a cmputer may be cnnected t the Ethernet scket. Only a single registered Ethernet Card may be used. The use f Wi-Fi hubs/switches, AirPrt Extreme Base Statins and ther hubs r switches are frbidden Netwrk cnnectin sharing is frbidden Members with cmputers in their rms will be held persnally respnsible fr the cntent f their cmputer and fr any use t which their cmputer has been put. If a member s cmputer cmprmises the efficient running f the netwrk it will be discnnected. Member s cmputers may nt run games servers, mail, web r ther frm f server r file/resurce service. Members wh share their cmputer resurces are nt recgnised as System Administratrs and may nt act in that privileged psitin in respect f the University Security and Privacy Plicy.
Cllege will nt recgnise any bligatins made t utside parties cncerning the use f a cmputer attached t the Cllege netwrk. Ethernet cnnectivity will be maintained whenever pssible; hwever, Cllege may need t take the Ethernet dwn at shrt ntice and therefre cannt guarantee cnnectivity. There is n Cllege respnsibility t maintain an Ethernet cnnectin. In the event f a breach f University r Cllege rules the use f the Ethernet scket will be suspended until the matter is reslved. Aut-updating antivirus sftware, with n-access scanning enabled, must be installed whilst yu are cnnected t the cllege netwrk. ICT Acceptable Use Plicy University Cllege prvides ICT and netwrk facilities fr use by members f the Cllege and visitrs t the Cllege subject t the terms and cnditins stated in this plicy. Under n circumstances shall this plicy limit the applicability r bscure the intentins f any ther plicy r legislatin that already gvern cmputer use at University Cllege. Definitin f Terms 1. Withut limiting its generality, the term ICT facilities shall be taken t include: free standing cmputers, netwrked cmputers, time-shared cmputers and terminals; services r sftware running n thse systems; netwrking that cnnects a cmputer r terminal t any ther cmputer r terminal; cmputer peripherals; media (CDs, DVDs, USB Memry Sticks, etc.); cmpnents; perating manuals and ther dcumentatin. External Cnditins f Use 1. Sme ICT facilities are prvided by University Cllege thrugh cntractual agreements with third party rganisatins. Users f IT facilities must abide by the terms and cnditins f these agreements such as are in frce at the time; 2. Of prime imprtance is the JANET Acceptable Use Plicy as stated by UKERNA (latest versin is available nline at https://cmmunity.jisc.ac.uk/library/acceptable-use-plicy ). 3. Users must read this befre using cmputer facilities at University Cllege. A cpy may be prvided; therwise yu shuld btain this fr yurself. It is nt permitted fr members f the Cllege and visitrs t allw use f University Cllege ICT facilities by anyne nt registered with the Cllege Acceptable Use 1. ICT facilities are prvided fr use by visitrs during their stay at University Cllege; 2. Under n circumstances may ICT facilities be used fr cnducting business r ther cmmercial activities; 3. Users f ICT facilities are nt permitted t use ICT facilities fr any f the fllwing: Mnitring and Cntrl any unlawful activity; the creatin, transmissin, strage, dwnlading r display f any ffensive, bscene, indecent r menacing images, data r ther material r any data capable f being reslved int such images r material; the creatin r transmissin f material which is designed r likely t cause annyance, incnvenience r needless anxiety, r t harass anther persn; the creatin r transmissin f defamatry material abut any individual r rganisatin; the sending f any email that des nt crrectly identify the sender f that email r attempts t disguise the identity f the cmputer frm which it was sent; the transmissin, withut prper authrisatin, f email t a large number f recipients, unless thse recipients have indicated an interest in receiving such email, r the sending r frwarding f email which is intended t encurage the prpagatin f cpies f itself; the creatin, access r transmissin f material in such a way as t infringe a cpyright, mral right, trade mark r ther intellectual prperty right; private prfit, except t the extent authrised under the users cnditins f emplyment r ther agreement with the Cllege; r cmmercial purpses withut specific authrisatin; gaining r attempting t gain unauthrised access t any facility r service within r utside University Cllege, r making any attempt t disrupt r impair such a service; the deliberate r reckless undertaking f activities such as may result in the fllwing: the waste f staff effrt r netwrk resurces, including time n any system accessible via the Clleges netwrk; the crruptin r disruptin f data; the vilatin f the privacy f ther users; the disruptin f the wrk f ther users; the intrductin r transmissin f a virus int the netwrk.
1. University Cllege ICT facilities are managed by appinted system administratrs; 2. The system administratrs reserve the right t mnitr the usage f ICT facilities, including netwrk traffic. Any recrds taken will be retained fr an apprpriate length f time and will be held securely; 3. In the event f an alleged breach f this plicy, r ther circumstances that are deemed by the system administratrs t warrant such a respnse, then access t ICT facilities may be restricted r suspended. Members f the Cllege and Visitrs will be ntified f the reasns and actin taken. Reprting f Prblems 1. A Member f the Cllege r Visitr may cntact ICT staff during ffice hurs by email t helpdesk@univ.x.ac.uk. 2. Any prblems with the prvided ICT facilities shuld be reprted in a timely manner s that ICT staff can make suitable arrangements; 3. If cnsumable resurces (e.g. paper, tner) are running lw and need replenishing then this shuld be reprted t the ldge befre they are exhausted s that ICT staff have adequate time t acquire suitable stck.
