Featuring 100 % renewable cartons
Beverage cartons are already a renewable choice Paperboard makes up on average 85% of the carton Wood fibers from legal and acceptable sources FSC certified 2
Since 2015, Elopak offers Pure-Pak cartons featuring renewable PE Green cap Easy to fold Green polyethylenelayer 3 Elopak Group 12 December 2017
Elopak first offered renewable PE based on organic residue feedstock Traditional plastics Fossil-based Renewable PE Organic residue-based Oil and gas Non-renewable High CO 2 e emissions Destruction of natural habitats Contributing to a circular economy Sourced within Europe Renewable and sustainable Lower CO 2 e emissions 4
Elopak s current offering is renewable PE from two suppliers with different feedstocks Traditional plastics Fossil-based Plant-based sugar cane Renewable PE Forest-based tall oil Oil and gas Sugar cane plantations Tall oil from trees, a residue from pulp and paper production Non-renewable High CO 2 e emissions Destruction of natural habitats Renewable Certified sustainable Lower CO 2 e emissions 5
Plant-based renewable PE from sugar cane PE is made from ethylene from sugar cane juice The ethylene is made partly from first crush juice and partly from the lower quality juice 6
Sugar cane plantations in Brazil are not converting rainforest to agricultural use Sugar cane can grow on land not suitable for other food crops 0,02 % of the arable land in Brazil is used for ethanol production No competition with food supply 7
Forest-based renewable PE from tall oil PE is made from feedstock based on residues from pulp and paper production tall oil Originates from Nordic forestry 8
ISCC certification ensures full traceability and best practices ISCC is an independent, globally applicable certification system for biofuels and other bio-mass products In Elopak s case, ISCC Ensures that the entire value chain (including the agricultural aspects and production steps) up to the finished product is certified Verifies the mass balance system, controlling input vs output through annual, on-site audits by neutral third parties Click to read more 9
Renewable PE is chemically identical to fossil-based PE No changes needed to fit existing production, filling processes and recycling streams! 10
The Elopak value chain uses the mass balance system for renewable PE The mass balance system mixes fossil-based materials with renewable ones. For every ton of renewable material bought, an equivalent amount of produced finished products can be sold as renewable. Regardless of which system you use mass balance or physical segregation the benefit for the environment is the same 11 Elopak Group 12 December 2017
Mass Balance is widely used and time-proven for many product types Mass balance principle is already widely used with several products, such as Coffee, Cocoa, Tea, Electricity (e.g Renewable Energy Certificates), Palm Oil, Soy beans etc Benefits of Mass Balance ELOPAK: Usage of existing infrastructure No change in suppliers Unchanged product quality and specifications No limitations in production capacity CUSTOMER: Unchanged product quality and specifications Wide product range Flexible adaptation in all configurations Shortened time to market in planning and launch Guaranteed by annual third party auditors through the supply chain 12 Elopak Group 12 December 2017

Policy developments relevant for the future of renewable plastics A number of EU Waste Directives as well as the EU Renewable Energy Directive are currently under revision The EU Renewable Energy Directive will greatly affect the market for biofuels and biopolymers The EU Waste Directives may also affect the market for biobased packaging, including the carton itself, and biopolymers The outcome of these processes are unclear, but we could see Promotion of biobased packaging, both cartons and biopolymers Increased costs for second generation biopolymers, and relatively speaking lower costs for first generation biopolymers Biobased means that mass balance cannot be used we may be headed towards physical segregation 14 Elopak Group 12 December 2017
Elopak is committed to be in the front of new developments We are engaged in research projects with key partners, developing new innovations related to renewable raw materials 15
