No matter whether wet lamination, prepreg lamination or infusion methods, all systems are adapted individually to the processes and production conditions in cooperation with the users. Classic: Easy application and low investment costs. The standard coating system with class. Advanced: High-quality wear protection with short cycle times. Free of solvents. High-end: Optimum protection with perfect smoothness for particularly economical use. 5
How to do it... Sanding Thorough sanding is required to remove the release agent and to roughen the surface. This ensures optimum adhesion of the coating to the substrate. Flat coat Contouring the blade surface. Our PEHAPOL 2-C PUR Paste filling compounds are characterised by their very good workability, fast drying and excellent sandability. Also recommended as repair material. Basecoat Our UV stable, low-solvent, fast drying PEHAPOL 2-C Basecoat provides an extra long-lasting protective coating thanks to its very high abrasion resistance and can be applied in high film thicknesses by roller and spray equipment. PEHAPOL 2-C Basecoat is also recommended as repair material for rotor blades on site. 6
...Application in detail Leading edge Our liquid 2-component PEHAPOL 2-C Edge protector especially developed for protecting the leading edge of rotor blades is characterised by its very good UV stability, excellent flexibility and further improved abrasion resistance. PEHAPOL 2-C Edge protector is also recommended as repair material for rotor blades on site. Pores and pinholes Filling of even the smallest pores and pinholes with PEHAPOL 2-C Porefiller pro vides for very smooth surfaces after applying the topcoat. PEHAPOL 2-C Porefiller is particularly user friendly in the production process thanks to its low material consumption and fast drying. Topcoat Our VOC-compliant, 2-C Topcoats PEHACRYL (solvent-based) and PEHABIN (water-based) are particularly UV stable and flexible and minimise energy losses thanks to their very high surface quality. These topcoats can be applied by both roller and spray equipment. PEHACRYL and PEHABIN topcoats are also recom mended as repair materials for rotor blades on site. 7
CLASSIC Easy application and very low investment costs at the same time. The minimum requirements for protective coatings are fulfilled. 1. Apply release agent to the mould 2. Insert EP laminates 3. Assembling of blade and removing release agent 4. Repair defects and contouring of the blade surface with PEHAPOL 2-C Paste 5. Protect the leading edge by applying PEHAPOL 2-C Edgeprotector (3 x 175-200 μm) OPTIONAL: Fill pores with PEHAPOL 2-C Porefiller 6. Apply PEHACRYL 2-C Plastic Paint (2 x 60-75 μm) or PEHABIN 2-C Hydro Paint (2 x 50 μm) as topcoat Dry film thickness on surface: Dry film thickness on leading edge: 100-150 μm 625-750 μm Properties: - Short process times and therefore few operations - Easy to integrate into production process - Inexpensive system: low investment costs and material consumption 8
ADVANCED Short cycle times due to subsequent application of highly resistant, solvent-free protective coating. This system effortlessly fulfils the requirements of high-quality wear resistance and can be easily integrated into the production process thanks to its easy applica tion. 1. Apply release agent to the mould 2. Insert EP laminates 3. Assembling of blade and removing release agent 4. Repair defects and contouring of the blade surface with PEHAPOL 2-C Paste 5. Roller application: PEHAPOL WP 2-C Basecoat RA protective coating (surface: 125 μm, leading edge 2 x 125 μm) 6. Fill pores with PEHAPOL 2-C Porefiller 7. Spray application: PEHAPOL WP 2-C Basecoat SA protective coating (surface: 175 μm, leading edge 4 x 175 μm) 8 Apply PEHACRYL 2-C Plastic Paint (2 x 60-75 μm) or PEHABIN 2-C Hydro Paint (2 x 50 μm) as topcoat Dry film thickness on surface: Dry film thickness on leading edge: 400-450 μm 1050-1100 μm Properties: - Very high abrasion resistance - Smooth surface, low energy losses - Long-lasting thanks to excellent UV resistance - Rational process due to short mould cycle times 9
HIGH-END This coating system offers perfect protection. The high surface quality reduces material consumption in finishing. Very smooth rotor blade surfaces reduce energy loss. 1. Apply release agent to the mould 2. Apply PEHAPOL 2-C Gelcoat, transparent (350-500 μm) or PEHAPOL 2-C Gelcoat, pigmented (up to 1000 μm) in the mould 3. Insert EP laminates 4. Assembling of blade and removing release agent 5. Repair defects and contouring of the blade surface with PEHAPOL 2-C Paste 6. Protect the leading edge by applying PEHAPOL 2-C Edgeprotector (3 x 175-200 μm) 7. Fill pores with PEHAPOL 2-C Porefiller 8. Apply PEHACRYL 2-C Plastic Paint (2 x 60-75 μm) or PEHABIN 2-C Hydro Paint (2 x 50 μm) as topcoat Dry film thickness: Surface (transparent): Leading edge (transparent): Surface (pigmented): Leading edge (pigmented): 450-650 μm 975-1250 μm 600-1150 μm 1125-1750 μm Properties: - Reliable process due to visibility of lamination defects when using transparent gelcoat - Optimised UV protection when using pigmented gelcoat - Very smooth surface, minimum pores, less sanding work - Best adhesion of protective coating to laminate 10
