1 Scope This European Standard contains co-ordinating sizes for kitchen furniture including worktops as well as for kitchen appliances, sinks and decorative panels. For convenience, in this standard the terms "furniture" and "appliance" are used for "kitchen furniture" and "kitchen appliance". It defines dimensions for the height, the width, the depth and the space to enable furniture, appliances, sinks and decorative panels to fit together as elements of kitchen equipment. This European Standard does not apply to catering equipment. 2 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this European Standard, the following terms and definitions apply. 2.1 working height vertical distance between the floor and the top of the worktop (see Figure 1, hi) 2.2 height of floor unit and built-under appliance vertical clear distance from the floor to the underside of the worktop (see Figure 1, h2) NOTE The minimum distance between worktop and the underside of the wall hanging cabinet is not specified. 2.3 depth of worktop horizontal distance between the front and the rear edge of the worktop (see Figure 2,11) 2.4 depth of worktop overhang horizontal distance between the front of the unit/appliance and the vertical line from the front edge of the worktop (see Figure 2,12) 2.5 depth of floor unit and built-under appliance horizontal distance between the front surface, including doors and drawer fronts but excluding any protruding elements such as handles, and the rear of the unit/appliance (see Figure 2,13 and Figure 3, /3, 14) 2.6 appliance/furniture space open space formed by furniture and/or appliances into which appliances or furniture may be inserted 2.7 opening for appliance opening or cut-out in a unit or a worktop which is intended for the installation of a built-in appliance or sink 2.8 decorative panel component intended by its size, material and colouring to adapt a built-in or built-under appliance to match the frontal design of the adjacent kitchen furniture 2.9 height of decorative panel vertical dimension of the decorative panel including the clamping frame; see Figure 5 if used 4
2.10 width of decorative panel horizontal dimension of the decorative panel including the clamping frame; see Figure 5 if used 2.11 thickness of decorative panel horizontal dimension of the decorative panel when it is measured at right angles to the front face of the appliance. Where clamping frames are used, a distinction is made between the clamping thickness, t1, and the overall thickness, t2 (see Figure 5). 3 Co-ordinating sizes for kitchen furniture and kitchen appliances 3.1 General Only plus deviations are admissible for the width and the height of an appliance/furniture opening or space. Only minus deviations are admissible for the external width and the height of accessories and appliances. 3.2 Height 3.2.1 Working height The working height, (see Figure 1, h1) shall be one of the following reference heights in millimetres: 800++0+ 5+050 0; 9500; 85050; 900 For a built-in hob/platform in a worktop, the clear height measured vertically downwards from the top surface of the worktop, shall be not less than 30 mm. NOTE 1 The purpose of specifying a series of dimensions for the working height is to allow adaption of the working height to the requirements of the individual user (different body height, different functional heights of appliances). NOTE 2 A lower working height may be required. This can be achieved by fixing the working height in steps of 50 mm.or making it adjustable. 3.2.2 Floor unit and built-under appliance The co-ordinating dimension for the height of a floor unit or a built-under appliance, (see Figure 1, h2) shall be at least one of the following heights in millimetres or adjustable (see also Note 2, clause 3.2.1): 770; 820; 870; 920. 5

NOTE In 3.3.1 and 3.3.2 only those depths are specified which are necessary for relating sizes of units and worktops to sizes of appliances. In situations where co-ordination between appliances and furniture is not needed, other depths may be used. 3.3.3 Wall unit The depth of a wall unit, l4, shall not exceed 400 mm (see Figures 2 and Figure 3). 6
