IBM Store Integrator V3 continues exposing the capability of IBMPoint of Sale (POS) applications to a wide variety of consumer touch points. It enables the POS to be used in a Services Oriented Architecture (SOA). Furthermore, it allows the retailer to extend and expose the functionality of POS applications such as General Sales Application (GSA), Supermarket Application (SA), and SurePOS# Application Client/Server Environment (ACE) to additional consumer touch points with the addition of a programming interface and new functional capabilities. The Store Integrator Graphical User Interface (SI GUI) component helps consumers and employees process sales transactions with intuitive, custom Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs). IBM Store Integrator V3 helps retailers reuse their existing IBM POS infrastructure to efficiently implement new business initiatives. This enables more seamless shopping interactions with selfservice solutions such as self-service kiosks, home shopping and multi-channel retailing. When Store Integrator V3 is used to integrate these solutions, it allows the retailers to use their existing proven IBM POS infrastructures - such as promotion management, price management, inventory management, and sales transaction management - to provide a common shopping experience. The retailer can use the following and affect all touch points: Promotional infrastructure and management procedures to allow seamless cross promotion. Price information and management procedures to provide consistent pricing. Sales transaction history to have consistent sales reporting and analysis. Such solutions can also potentially help the retailer: IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 1

Enable new business initiatives within the store while using the same POS Increase employee productivity and provide competitive consumer service by providing information on product promotions, pricing, and customer shopping trends, enabling more efficient store operations to potentially reduce costs Increase sales by creating opportunities to offer personalized service and motivate customers to spend more in the store Increase consumer satisfaction so it is easy for consumers to get the information they need exactly when they need it Users of SI V3 can take advantage of the following new features: POS Business Component (POSBC) support for Supermarket Application (SA) This support allows a POSBC client to interact with SA in the same way it can interact with IBM's Application Client/Server Environment for 4690 OS (ACE). This support allows retailers running SA to integrate with the IBM Checkout Environment for Consumer-Service (IBM CHEC). 4690 Controller Failover support for SA Virtual Sessions Now, in addition to ACE, failover support for virtual sessions when a store controller fails has been added to SA. New POS Device support for Remote GUI Support has been added for a single cash drawer, a 2x20 display and a tone indicator. Performance and Memory improvements Improvements have been made to the initialization time of ACE virtual sessions. Also, ACE virtual sessions require less memory with this version of SI. Key prerequisites Refer to the Hardware requirements and Software requirements sections. Planned availability date October 3, 2008 See the complete letter for National Language Availability. Description As part of the IBM Retail Integration Framework, IBM Store Integrator (SI) helps retailers protect their IBM 4690 POS solution investments while extending and enhancing the capability of those solutions using Java and XML. By opening the POS platform for extensions and data and business logic sharing, retailers can leverage the capability of their existing IBM solutions to help deliver unique and differentiating cus- tomer service. Store Integrator V3 includes the following components: Application Extension Facility (AEF) Store Integrator Graphical User Interface (SI GUI) POS Provider POS Business Component (POSBC) Secured Socket Layer (SSL) Encryption Application Extension Facility This feature allows existing functionality within IBM General Sales Application, IBM Supermarket Application, and IBM SurePOS Application Client/Server Environment for 4690 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 2

to be accessible through a set of APIs for use remotely or by other applications (such as selfservice fuel, personal shopping assistants, and delicatessen or photo special order kiosks). The IBM Application Extension Facility (AEF) is a component of the IBM Store Integrator (SI). The features are as follows: Programmatic access to POS functions using a Java API Integration of POS logic into other applications Extension of the POS application through Java Remote management functions consisting of monitoring and controlling the real and virtual POS sessions and their environments The Application Extension Facility can be used on either the POS controller or the terminal. On the controller, it enables the existing POS terminal sales application to run in a virtual session. Multiple virtual sessions can be operating simultaneously on the same controller supporting applications that need to integrate with POS. When the application extension facility is used on a physical POS terminal, it enables the POS terminal sales application to be extended using Java. It also supports the Store Integrator GUI feature. Store Integrator GUI This enhanced GUI tool helps enable retailers to develop simple, intuitive consumer and operator interfaces for General Sales Application, IBM Supermarket Application, and IBM SurePOS Application Client/Server Environment using XML. No programming is required. Those retailers who have invested in the SureVision GUI PRPQ to create GUIs can protect those interfaces as they move to this new enhanced GUI. In addition to U.S. English, ACE and SA support Spanish and GSA supports Canadian French. POS Provider POS Provider is the client interface for sending batch requests to a POS system. It includes the basic set of operations to perform the tasks required for order processing through the POS system. It enables the client to perform the following functions: Check the status of the POS system Request the unit price information Request extended prices and transaction totals for an order Pay for an order Confirm responsibility for reversing a charged payment POS Business Component The POS Business Component (POSBC) is a client API that allows non-java applications access to POS business functions via the AEF. POSBC provides a standard XML API for POS functionality that allows a client program to control a POS transaction. The POSBC provides a client API with POS functionality and hides some of the complexity of using the Application Extension Facility. The POS Business Component includes a basic set of operations to perform the tasks required for order processing through the point-of-sale system. The objective of the POSBC is to support POS integration via a standard interface to multiple types of clients (fuel, portable shopper, and so on) in multiple connectivity and programming environments. In this release, POSBC works with the ACE and SA* (*NEW with Version 3) applications. The focus is to support XML-based messaging clients and native Java clients. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Encryption This allows the users to configure a more secure way to protect sensitive data transmissions between controllers, terminals, and SI-enabled devices. It enhances security through the use of SSL for transmission of passwords and consumer payment information. New functionality in Store Integrator V3 Users of SI V3 can take advantage of the following new features: POS Business Component (POSBC) support for Supermarket Application (SA) The POSBC provides a consistent, high level XML-based interface for applications to process sales, return transactions, and check the price of items. This interface is accessible from both IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3

Java and non-java programs; it also enables Web services. It provides the ability to connect POS systems with many consumer self-service devices such as personal shopping assistants and fuel pumps. In addition to ACE, POSBC also works with the SA application. The focus is to support XML-based messaging clients and native Java clients. The SA implementation requires corresponding updates to the SA application. Since SA functionality is a subset of ACE functionality, the POSBC support for SA is a subset of the POSBC support for ACE. Custom extensions may be required if the POSBC client requires customer unique functions like electronic payments and fuel sales. This function detects when a 4690 Controller fails and then reestablishes virtual sessions on a backup controller for each of its clients including the Remote GUI and IBM CHEC self-checkout lanes. In case of a system or network failure, it provides a system which fails virtual sessions over from one controller to another. This new function enhances the virtual sessions to provide more reliability. Failover Status MBeans for Systems Management To improve the serviceability of the Failover function, virtual session MBean information has been enhanced to provide failover status. New POS Device support for Remote GUI The Store Integrator Remote GUI currently supports the single-station printer, PIN pad, scanner and MSR. In addition to these devices, support has been added for a single cash drawer, a 2x20 display and a tone indicator. Property File Merge For the Store Integrator property files that do not use Property bundling, a merge process is used to merge the new property file with the old one. This preserves customer modifications when new levels of Store Integrator are installed. Performance and memory improvements Improvements have been made to the initialization time of ACE virtual sessions. This allows for quicker client response times when an ACE virtual session is initially started and also when the virtual session fails over from one 4690 controller to another 4690 controller. ACE virtual sessions also require less memory with this version of SI. Instead of loading the entire ACE terminal sales module for each ACE virtual session, shared portions of the ACE terminal sales module (code and data space) are loaded only once. This results in a savings of several MB of memory for each ACE virtual session. The total savings depends on the size of the ACE terminal sales executable. POSBC performance has also been improved by reducing the amount of disk IO required to persist POSBC state data. ACE currency The SI GUI contains support for the ACE Health Benefit Account (HBA). The HBA balance displays to the operator through a popup dialogue when requested through a new GUI button. Raincheck support - the ACE feature which allows redemptions of paper rainchecks is supported in both AEF and POSBC. The AEF supports the new ACE Enhanced Check MICR operator guidance messages as well as the new prompts for restricted items when the operator is not old enough to sell the restricted item. Accessibility by people with disabilities A U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) containing details on accessibility compliance can be requested at http://www.ibm.com/able/product_accessibility/index.html IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 4

Select SI Form number IBM SI GUI Programmers Guide G362-0563 IBM Store Integrator User's Guide V3 G362-0561 IBM Store Integrator Programmers Guide V3 G362-0562 Technical information Specified operating environment Hardware requirements The hardware required for a solution using Store Integrator V3 virtual sessions depends upon: Capacity required by the client solution Capacity needed for any other processes running on the controller (services, other applications, DIF, and so on) Decision to use virtual session failover A solution requiring a fully-enabled failover must have an equivalent capacity reserved on a backup controller. There are multiple solution scenario types for SI, but the primary solution types are self checkout, fuel, and portable shopper. These solution types have varying transaction rates and thus, varying capacity requirements. Typical transaction rates for the categories are: Self checkout - Fifteen items per transaction and fourteen transactions per hour per lane. Fuel - one item per transaction and twelve transactions per hour per session Portable Shopper - Thirty items per transaction and four transactions per hour per session The recommended failover-enabled solution for a typical environment (with no additional load from other processes), consists of two controllers, each with a 2.0 GHz processor and 768 MB of memory. Operating as one alternate and one subordinate, these controllers support one of the following loads: Self checkout - 14 lanes Fuel - 25 fuel pumps IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 6

Portable Shopper - 25 units Terminal hardware for SI GUI The current POS applications (SA, GSA, and ACE) have the capability of using the SI interface to enable a Java GUI terminal screen for the POS application. This function has the capability to support one GUI at the terminal or dual GUIs (a customer display and an operator display) at the terminal. SI V3 will continue to support older terminals for the POS GUI. This minimum terminal hardware includes a 500 MHz processor for single display and a 850 MHz processor for dual displays. These provide acceptable performance for the non-modified base applications. The recommended terminals for best performance of the SI GUI are 4800-741 terminals and any higher-end models. These terminals provide faster response and are better able to contain added value function to the GUI solution. The minimum memory requirement of the terminal is 224 MB. Controller hardware for SI GUI (no virtual sessions) If you are using the SI GUI, the minimum configuration for back-office controllers is a 500-MHz processor and at least 128 MB of RAM. You can choose either a one year or a three-year option. You must order Software Maintenance Registration with the initial order. It entitles the end user/ customer to receive new Versions and/or Releases during the initial 12-month period, and also to receive Support. It also registers them in the entitlement database, allowing them to open and report problems. If you do not include the Software Maintenance Registration PID with the initial order, it will not update the entitlement system to allow the end user/customer to get support. Also, you must ensure that the number of base SI and SI GUI licenses ordered matches the number of SI and SI GUI software maintenance licenses. There should be a one-for-one match. You do not need to order the SWMA Renewal the first year since it is already included in the base license price of the package. This needs to be ordered once the registration period is up (after the first 12 months). It starts with year number 2through the life of the installation. Please make sure you ALWAYS, order the latest announced Software Maintenance PID for SI and SI GUI. The SI and SI GUI Software Maintenance PID number will always be the same PID number for the life of SI and SI GUI.
