Your Options: On-Premise, Cloud, and Hybrid
What Are the Underlying Drivers Here? 1. Compliance and Regulatory issues 2. What type of content is your organization storing in SharePoint? 3. What are your Organizational Cloud Goals and Overall Roadmap? 4. What are your goals for SharePoint? 5. What existing SharePoint platform do you have installed? 6. How organized is your organization s existing Active Directory? 7. Authentication requirements (Active Directory, ADFS, 2-Factor, etc.)

Office 365 SharePoint Online licensing can be confusing: Which licensing option is the best fit for your organization? 3. Microsoft Azure licensing can be confusing Azure Active Directory Pricing Model = Free, Basic, Premium 5. Understanding Azure ExpressRoute for Azure and Office 365 *Note: This just became available for Office 365 6. Month-to-Month, Yearly Commitments, and Pitfalls to Avoid
User Training, Administrative Training 1. If you are upgrading to SharePoint 2013 and/or Office 365 from a previous version of SharePoint, there will be the obvious end-user training evolved to ensure end-user adoption 2. If you are moving to a Cloud or Hybrid Model, your IT Administration staff will need to be trained on the new features and administrative tools offered in SharePoint Online / Office 365 3. Your IT stakeholders must now update your organization s SharePoint Governance model to now include: SharePoint Online Office 365 Exchange Online (Note: Once the decision is made to possibly migrate to the cloud) OneDrive for Business Skype for Business Yammer, Delve, Power BI, Social Listening, etc.
Developer Training 1. There is a new development model with Office 365 for Cloud-first development (i.e., Client-side code) 2. Your current SharePoint On-Premise developers will need to rethink server-side code vs. the new client-side code requirements 3. This training is critical as you may need to upgrade your existing custom components and features to be Office 365 / SharePoint Online compatible 4. Developers must now deeply understand the new way the Cloud and Hybrid Cloud Authentication models work and develop their applications accordingly

What SharePoint On-Prem Sites are O365 Candidates? 1. You will need to perform a full assessment of your existing SharePoint 2010, 2007, or even newer SharePoint 2013 Sites to review their customizations and custom components such as: 1. Have you implemented custom server-side code to meet a specific business need? 2. Are you connecting into other line-of-business (LOB) applications for reporting and analytics and will the cloud meet these needs? 3. Do you have highly sensitive regulatory or compliance driven data that is not suitable, in your organization s eyes, for the cloud (i.e., SharePoint Online, Office 365, Azure, AWS, etc.) 2. Has your Legal Department signed-off on storing documents in the cloud? 3. What type of auditing controls does your organization Sites and related content require and does Office 365 / SharePoint Online / Azure meet those needs?
