The successful renovation of a damaged industrial pavement be it out of tiles, resin-reinforced concrete or epoxy coatings always causes problems to the user: How can such a renovation be done? Which coating system shall be applied? How long does such a renovation take? And how much does it cost? We can precisely answer your questions, because we have over 15 years of experience in the realisation of such projects. Problems in the food processing sector: Insufficient coverage of the reinforcement If the coating is applied too thinly, leaky coves cause unhygienic In the concrete underground causes the screed is grinding under neath decomposition in the area between Spalling of the coating. the Coating.. the pavement and the wall. Industrial floorings in the food processing industry are exposed to high strain through fats, blood, hot and cold water and the strain of cleansers. In addition to this, mechanical loads by fork lifts, transport basins and falling tools are straining a pavement. An industrial flooring continuously has to resist to all these strains. Many products do not resist or they have not been applied properly. The constructor thus has to affront considerable consequences, for due to EU certifications and regular hygiene inspections the controllers high standards on hygiene and cleanness. In addition, you as an employer, are responsible for the job safety of your employees and are asked to apply the anti-slip coatings required by the safety organization. How can such a renovation be done? If Monile, Kiesserling or other types of synthetic resin coatings show spallings or elutriations in the top layer, these coatings can be prepared for the following coating by milling crosswise the edge zone next to the surface. Then follows shot-blasting. Corroded armour irons are being removed. If the adhesion of an existing coating to the underground is affected by the grinding of the screed beneath, those coatings have to be milled or grinded, occasionally it is possible to demolish them with hand tools, in order to ensure a continous adhesion to the concrete or screed below. 1 /5
Grinding of a damaged EP-coating crosswise milling of a coated concrete floor Grinding of an existing coating After removing the old coating by milling or grinding, the existing concrete/screed is prepared for the new coating by shot-blasting, in order to receive a dust-free and deep-cleaned surface. At a residual moisture of >5%, the areas would have to be dried prior to the coating. After shot-blasting a bond test value of >1,5 N/mm² is detected. Which coating system shall be applied? If the renovation has to be executed within a very short period of time (in order to minimize the production downtimes), the application of Plastifloor coating system is highly recommendable for the user. Each coating layer cures within 30 60 minutes, so that there are only short period of holding time between the single layers. The ready floor coating is mechanically and chemically fully loadable after 2 h after the application. Plastilfoor is a thermoplastic material and therefore is particularly suitable for areas of changing temperature condition. It cures even at low temperature, so that it is possible to execute coatings under bad weather conditions (winter time) or in freezer rooms. In the food processing sector, a Plastifloor floor coating should always be built in the following manner (thickness: 7-8 mm): Primer (Plastifloor 112) Mortar resin 510 + Mix C2 for the installation of the slope Elastic membrane (Plastifloor 332/z) Broadcast coating (Plastifloor 410 with slip resistance according to R 11- R 13) Sealing (Plastifloor 526) The transition between the wall and the ground should be installed in a flexible manner. For this purpose, we use a profile system consisting of an AL profile and an angled V4A-profile which is being attached to the wall with a joint tape. As a joint filler, we successfully apply PU-sealants. 2 /5
Illustration of a mechanically separated wall socket With Plastifloor-mortar resin 510 + Mixture C2 it is possible to level bumps; process channels and inlets and even adjust missing or insufficient slopes. Prior to the application of primer 112, it is possible to measure the residual moisture with a CM-device and the bond strength with an adhesive pull strength device (residual moisture <5%, tensile bond strength >1,5 N/mm²) Measuring the tensile bond strength Filling the cracks with resin Application oft he primer. Floor renovations with Plastifloor are often processed over the weekend, on order to minimize the production downtimes. Considering the application of inlets, channels and a new cove, up to 500 m² can be done over the weekend. The jobs normally start on Friday, at 14h00 and are finished until Sunday evening.
