Choosina a Contractor Choosing a Contractor When deciding on a contractor it is best to ask some questions to help you with your decision. Obtain a list of reference work you can check How long have they been in business Do they have full public and employer liability insurance Request a written quotation Decide in writing a plan and schedule of work Meet daily to review the product and quality of work Ensure your contractor orders the correct quantity of material Product returns are not accepted Barleystone Paving Ltd cannot guarantee the workmanship of any contractor. Cleaning 1. Initial cleaning After paving has been allowed to settle for a few weeks, you may wish to hose down to remove any excess dirt or sand. Yon can if necessary treat the area with a weed killer suppressant as per the recommendations on the label. 2. Block Paving Sealer Your newly installed paving can benefit from Paving Sealant which combats staining and weed growth whilst enhancing colour and appearance. Acrylic Sealers can be sprayed and form sealed skins to the top of the area ensuring an easily maintained finish. Areas must be free from stains or dirt before the sealer is applied. 3. General Dirt Regular sweeping is recommended to maintain appearance, tyre marks and other staining may be more pronounced on lighter coloured paving. Such instances must be accepted as outside of the manufacturers control and additional maintenance may be required. Medium pressure hosing should remove general dirt and grime, additional jointing sand if required is available from Barleystone in 25kg bags. High pressure power washers are not recommended as damage may be caused to the block surface. Before any cleaning begins, a trial area should be tested. A full range of cleaning products are available from hardware stores. The Manufacturers recommendations should always be followed when using these products. 4. Algae, Moss, and Lichen General cleaning of algae or dirt requires brushing using a generous solution of hot water and washing up liquid, rinsed with lots of clean water. Shaded areas beneath trees etc may require repeated treatments. Heavy growth of moss or lichen may need to be removed by first applying Barleystone Paving Cleaner. Best applied to a dry paving surface the solution will take several days to take effect. The dead material can then be easily brushed off. 5. Weeds Weeds can be treated using a recommended Weed Killer solution from Garden Centres or Merchants. Areas to be treated should have larger weeds removed by hand before applying the solution as per the manufacturer s instructions. 28
