Smart City Social Media Campaign About The Smart Cities Challenge seeks to create an innovative, fully-integrated model city that uses data, technology & creativity to shape how people and goods are transported. Columbus wants to be the nation s epicenter for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) research, development, and implementation. As America s Opportunity City, our focus on implementing ITS will not only create opportunities for economic development and job creation for the Columbus Region but also provide ladders of opportunity to our residents to better access jobs, food, services, education, and recreation. Columbus has submitted an application for a $40 million grant to improve our City through five key strategies: Goal Improving access to jobs through increased public transit efforts & autonomous vehicles Building on our strength as a national logistics hub by optimizing the movement and delivery of freight Connecting visitors through real-time event, transit, traffic, and parking tracking Connecting citizens by increasing mobility in challenged neighborhoods Investing in a sustainable transportation plan We re virtually rallying our Smart City partners, community leaders and businesses to show support for this initiative through a collaborative social media effort.
