Journeyman Line Worker Jefferson County Public Utility District #1, serving approximately 19,000 electric customers in eastern Jefferson County Washington, has an opening for a Journeyman Line Worker. The district is looking for a highly skilled worker with a wide-ranging background in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground lines, transmission, and substation facilities. Duties include construction, maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting of distribution and transmission lines and equipment. A working knowledge of RUS standards, record keeping, and the ability to work with staking sheets and work orders a must. Experience Required: A high school diploma or G.E.D., the completion of an approved Journeyman line worker apprenticeship program, including course work in basic electricity is required. I. JOB OBJECTIVE Journeyman Lineman A. Basic Function of position Responsible for overhead/underground distribution, sub transmission, construction, maintenance and service work assigned to him. Work with the substation and metering personnel. Perform all duties of a journeyman lineman B. Reporting Relationships C. External Contacts Under the direct supervision of the Line Foreman Member/Public Contractors Other Utilities II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES A. Responsibilities performed regularly 1. Responsible for the construction and maintenance on de-energized and energized overhead distribution, underground distribution, transmission, and substation facilities. 2. Responsible to know the locations of lines, voltages, sources of power, direction of feeds, locations of fuses, breakers and regulators in order to have current knowledge of the transmission and distribution system in the service area to which assigned. 3. Responsible for the maintenance and proper use all vehicles, equipment and tools which are assigned. 4. Responsible for the care of material from and the return of material to the warehouse to include all unused and retired materials. 5. 6. Responsible to prepare RUS Staking Sheets and Work Orders as required by the Line Foreman 7. Will complete all work in a prompt, safe, economical, workmanlike manner. 8. Responsible for safety on each job, knowledge of state and federal laws and safe work practices 9. Responsible for conducting on-the-job training that will afford members of his crew to increase their knowledge, work skill and value. B. Duties performed regularly 1. Performs all duties of Journeyman Lineman. 2. Practices good housekeeping on his truck and avoids waste and damage to material. 3. Prepares accurate, concise, neat and legible reports and maintenance logs, Line inspection sheets and will make prompt verbal reports when unusual or serious situations occur. 4. Attends classes and training programs as required. 5. Accepts call out duty for emergency calls after regular working hours. 6. Will take turn in the on call rotation. 7. A thorough knowledge of Hot Line preventive maintenance work is required. C. Required 1. Good physical condition is required. 2. A willingness and ability to work with other co-op employees and serve on various committees, if appointed to such. 4.
