Technology Milan: Glue free façade insulation elements Deep renovation of block of dwellings: - ENVELOPE: high efficient insulation, replacement of windows. - ENERGY SYSTEM: installation of thermostatic valves and heat metering devices on radiators, connection to district heating network, heat recovery from mechanical ventilation exhaust air by means of heat pump. Sensors and control system - RENEWABLE ENERGY: Installation of PV power plant ENERGY NEED 45 % ENERGY USE 63 % N.R. PRIMARY ENERGY 67 % CO₂ EMISSIONS 68 %
Technology Bratislava: PV supported air-towater heat pumps First nzeb renovation is Slovakia. -ENVELOPE: High level of insulation deployed in thermal envelope. Replacement of all windows and renewal of loggias and their glazing. -SYSTEMS: Installation of heat pumps, individual controlled ventilation system with heat recovery. Metering and regulation control systems -RENEWABLE ENERGY: 10kWp photovoltaic plant. SAVINGS IN BEST3 ENERGY NEED 46 % ENERGY USE 80 % N.R. PRIMARY ENERGY 48 % CO₂ EMISSIONS 71 %
Technology Sestao: Bio-based materials and biomass thermal system Social housing - ENVELOPE: Deep renovation of a listed building to nzeb, based in Bio-based materials (mainly timber). - SYSTEMS+RREE: 100% RES supply for heating and DHW (2 biomass boilers 160 kw and 60 kw). New Ventilation system with heat recovery. - ICTs: Energy Management System & Thermostats SAVINGS ENERGY NEED 63 % ENERGY USE 56 % N.R. PRIMARY ENERGY 92 % CO₂ EMISSIONS 92 %
Technology Vienna: Bio-based materials & innovative business model nzeb renovation of district with innovative business model. Two floors increased with light construction and bio-based materials. -ENVELOPE: Prefabricated façade, high thermal performance -SYSTEMS: DH + PV installation -ICTs: Smart metering. Information about building physics, status of the buildings. ICTs useful for planning. SAVINGS IN BEST BOKU 1-2 ENERGY NEED 37 % ENERGY USE 44 % N.R. PRIMARY ENERGY 41 % CO₂ EMISSIONS 42%
Finance Business model of different EU-GUGLE pilots Pilot Total Investment costs (VAT incl.) /m2 Self-financing National subsidy EU-grant Aachen 421 85% 0% 15% Bratislava 243 79% 0% 21% Milan 909 65% 29% 6% Sestao 417 76% 19% 5% Tampere 235 79% 2% 19% Vienna 789 79% 15% 6% - Increase the number of floors in building. - Public administration assumed the ownership in buildings, and once the refurbishment works ended, the buildings were sold to specific citizens. - Social housing
Society Aachen: Communication with tenants Workshops during the construction phase, events celebrating the completions of refurbishment works as a thank you to tenants living in renovated dwellings. Intensive communication with the tenants in several languages took place due to the immigration status of many residents Gothenburg: citizen participation events+ dialogue with specific group of neighbors through public art. Renovation of Hammarbadet (public baths) : Workshops with users and the staff. Participation in the Art Is Happening programme organized by the Public Art Agency Sweden (Statens konstråd) Meetings with Swedish Union of Tenants about dialogue, participation, and co - creation Tampere: Motivating flat owners to invest together - dealing with housing co-operatives Workshops, competitions, cases and tools, training courses, good living events in Tampere residential areas, production of dissemination videos, etc.
Communication & Replication 6 pioneer cities are not enough to change the world! EU-GUGLE took part in two initatives: Collaboration w. other projects My Smart City District community Knowledge sharing w. other cities The Replication Cluster
Communication & Replication My Smart City District community A Community of 8 smart cities projects, bringing together 25 pilot cities One portal to find them all: www.mysmartcitydistrict.eu One LinkedIn group to interact with them all: «My Smart City District Community» One Twitter account to stay in touch: @MySmartCityD My Replication Cluster A joint initiative of the SINFONIA & EU-GUGLE projects A community of like-minded cities interested in designing and implementing their own district-scale refurbishment strategies. A framework to exchange ideas and engage in knowledge sharing activities (study visits, workshops, networking) 8 pilot districts 7 replication districts 42 Interested cities!
Lessons learned It s needed to find a appropriate business environment with participation of private and public capital to find a bankable solution. Cost effective solutions are necessary. Good solutions need good trustful collaboration between the involved partners. The time used for discussions, information and looking for good solutions is a good invest. Technical expertise of the members involved. The planning and building process must be planned with and integrated approach to avoid difficulties coming later in operation.
Lessons learned User behavior is a key issue for the result of energy efficient buildings. If end users are not willing or able to use the technics properly, the performance values are decreasing. Therefore the communication, rise awareness and training of the tenants is maybe the most important factor to succeed. Citizen engagement and participation Political will to plan long-term developments
