JOB DESCRIPTION HIAL AMSL DAL Job Title: Location: Line Manager: Air Traffic Control Officer (fixed-term for 3 years) Kirkwall Airport Senior Air Traffic Control Officer (SATCO) Purpose of the Role The primary role of an Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) is to maintain a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic in order to prevent collision between aircraft flying in the air and operating on the manoeuvring and to assist with the prevention of collision between aircraft operating on the apron. ATCOs are also responsible for notifying the appropriate organisations regarding aircraft in need of search and rescue and assistance. You will need to be a confident, decisive and articulate person who is able to give and take instructions from multiple sources simultaneously. You will also need to be flexible to the changing needs of the operation and the business. Responsibilities The ATCO role is successfully delivered through: Carrying out Daily Routines/Tasks This is what you do on a daily basis. (Your attitude and behaviour towards colleagues and customers) Daily Routine and Tasks The list below describes the typical routines you will be expected to undertake on a daily basis but this list is not exhaustive. We want to foster an environment of continuous improvement in the overall airport environment and to this end your duties and responsibilities may require you to contribute to ATS support functions. You will routinely: Provide a safe, efficient and regulatory compliant air traffic control service to all participating aircraft at all times. Provide a safe and expeditious service to aircraft flying in the air and operating on the maneuvering area in order to assist in the prevention of collision. Assist aircraft operating on the apron in order to assist in the prevention of collision between aircraft and between aircraft and vehicles and/or pedestrians. Page 1 of 6
Control vehicular and pedestrian activity on the manoeuvring area. Issue information and instruction to aircraft. Co-ordinate with adjacent ATC agencies as required. Provide an alerting service for aircraft and initiate search and rescue action as required. Conduct Meteorological Observations and prepare meteorological reports as required. Operation of ATC and Airport technical and support systems in accordance with published procedures. Comply with ATC regulatory requirements and Company practices and procedures. Comply with the practices and procedures stated in the Company Safety Management System Manual (SMS). Participate in and contribute to Safety Management System activates when requested. Report all operational occurrences and incidents in accordance with Regulatory and Company requirements. Maintenance of operational and administrative records in accordance with published procedures; Liaise with other airport departments and external agencies as required. Check and confirm the operational status of essential ATC and Airport equipment and support systems. Undertake supervision, training and associated reporting in accordance with the Unit Training Plan (where an OJTI endorsement is held). Undertake competency assessments and associated reporting in accordance with the Unit Competency Scheme. Instruct and mentor ATS support staff and other third parties when required. Act as the Aerodrome Authority when required. Contribute to the continuous improvement process through participation in working groups and project teams. The environment in which you ll be working You ll be required to work a shift pattern covering various shifts and you will have to stay late on occasion, for example where a flight is delayed. You ll work with various teams and departments within The HIAL Group along with external organisations and respect for all other roles is expected. Essential requirements Please note that the following are ESSENTIAL: Applicants must hold a UK CAA issued ATCO licence in accordance with Commission Regulation (EU) 340/2015 together with ADI and APP ratings; You must hold a current CAA Class 3 Aviation Medical Certificate; You must hold ICAO English Language Proficiency Certificate at Level 5 or higher; You must be eligible to work in the UK; You must be able to obtain a satisfactory Standard Disclosure Scotland check; Provide proof of identity and address; You need to be able to provide employment/unemployment/ training/education history over the last 5 years; You must be able to provide a satisfactory criminal record check for any country you have resided in for a minimum of 6 months; You need to provide a character reference for the last 5 years.
