1 UEA CAREERS SERVICE Placement and Internship Officer (Three Posts) Ref: ALC699 The Posts The UEA Careers Service is seeking three highly motivated Placement and Internship Officers to develop existing and new opportunities for students to gain work-based experience through placements and internships. The successful candidates will play a key role in helping deliver the University s commitment to providing a programme of opportunities for students to maximise their potential in their academic work and in the workplace. Each Officer will join a new, small team based within one of three Faculties; Science, Social Science and Humanities. As part of the application process candidates can draw on their experience to express a Faculty preference. An experienced professional and a confident communicator, you will have the ability to use your interpersonal, presentation and networking skills to support students into placements and to develop effective internal and external relationships. You will be self-motivated, able to work independently; be proactive in your approach and be able to manage multiple deadlines effectively including working to institutional targets. 2 GENERAL Salary Salary will be 32,548 to 38,833 per annum, on Grade 7 on the single salary spine. The normal expectation is that starting salary will be at the minimum of the advertised salary scale. Starting Date The posts are available from 10 November 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter on a full-time, indefinite basis. Terms and Conditions of Appointment Full details of terms and conditions of employment for Administrative Staff will be made available to the candidate to whom the appointment is offered. Relocation Expenses Relocation expenses are reimbursable under certain conditions. Residence The University is strongly committed to providing an excellent student experience and research environment, and it is expected that all staff will be available on campus to carry out their duties during the working week in support of these goals. Absences for significant periods are by agreement with the Head of School or Head of Division. Annual Leave Entitlement There is an annual holiday entitlement of six weeks plus statutory (8 days) and customary (6 days) holidays. Superannuation The post is superannuable under the Universities Superannuation Scheme. JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Placement & Internship Officer Grade: 7 Service: Reporting to: UEA Careers Service Placement & Internship Manager Purpose of the job: To provide work placement and work-related opportunities for students in a set Faculty, liaising with employers, Academic staff, Careers Advisers and Business Engagement staff. To support students in finding, securing and completing work placement opportunities, in collaboration with Careers Advisers and Academic staff. To build and maintain excellent relationships with employers with a view to increasing quantity and quality of employability development opportunities available to students within the curriculum. Main Responsibilities: Contribute to the delivery of Faculty and School commitments on work placement and work-related opportunities, as part of employability plans and wider institutional strategies. Expand the pool of organisations offering relevant placement and work-based learning provision, drawing on existing Faculty and School contacts and Business Engagement staff within the Careers Service and the Alumni office. Collaborate with Faculty learning and teaching, curriculum development and administrative staff in developing curriculum space for placements and workrelated learning. Provide specific support for students to find, secure and complete placements through one-to-one, workshops and on-line resources in collaboration with Careers Advisers.
6 Post-holder will be a point of contact for placement enquiries within the Faculty providing advice and expertise as required to students, academics and employers. Report on development and delivery of work-based provision at Faculty and School meetings as appropriate. Work with Careers Service Systems staff to track and report on employer relationship development and progress. Ensure all supported work-based opportunities are delivered in accordance with national legislation and institutional regulations and codes of practice. Contribute to the development and delivery of a student engagement plan designed to increase the number of students undertaking placements, working closely with Careers Advisers, Faculty / School Academic staff e.g. Year in Industry Co-ordinators and Employability Directors. Ensure that work-based opportunities are effectively promoted to prospective students and other external audiences as appropriate. Engage with relevant external organisations and professional bodies including AGCAS, HEA, BIS, AGR, ASET, QAA and others to keep up with sectoral developments and share good practice, including compilation of case studies. Undertake such other duties appropriate to the grade of the post as required by line manager. The post will include occasional evening and weekend duties August 2017
