POSITION OVERVIEW Ermha is well respected as a leader in achieving positive outcomes for people with mental illness and disability with complex needs. A critical component of this work is the capacity understand the needs of our clients and tailor behaviour intervention strategies appropriate to their needs. The Behaviour Intervention Specialist is responsible for the development, delivery and review of Behaviour Assessments and Behaviour Management Plans for people who have an individually funded support plan approved by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) or the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) or DHHS. The role will ensure a high level of quality of service delivery that is responsive to the specific needs of each individual. The position will work alongside direct support staff and team leaders, providing them with Behaviour Support Plans to follow, guidance, secondary consultation and specialist supervision. Page 1 of 5
The Behaviour Intervention Specialist needs to maintain and develop strong, productive and sustainable partnerships with key stakeholders to support comprehensive service provision and maintain up to date knowledge of current service system developments. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS Specialist Intervention Ensure all consumers that are required to have Behaviour Support Plans (BSP s) and Life Transition Plans (LTP s) have relevant BSP s and/or LTP s that are tailored to their individual needs Ensure all BSP s and LTP s are reviewed and updated on a regular basis, or in response to consumer circumstances as required. Contribute to the development of structures and protocols for new consumer to ensure a smooth transition for the consumer and their carers and/or families. Oversee the development, monitoring and review of consumer behaviour tracking systems to aid the analysis of consumer behaviour data and inform ongoing behaviour management strategies Ensure assessments and behaviour tracking documentation are reviewed to ensure the needs of consumers are appropriately catered for. Program Management and Development Lead the management and development of programs and projects that meet client directed needs and achieve client directed outcomes Enable formal and informal opportunities for consumer input into programs. Ensure program activities meet service delivery objectives Ensure processes are in place to monitor service quality and service data integrity. Ensure Behaviour Intervention Strategies meet service delivery objectives. Contribute to creative, flexible and adaptive service improvements that respond to consumer and service system issues and identified service gaps. Ensure ongoing program evaluation, build practice knowledge and contribute to continuous quality improvement. Maintain a well-developed understanding of contemporary consumer and sector developments and contribute to positively positioning Ermha to respond to external changes. Page 2 of 5
Ensure an understanding of relevant procedures and have the capacity to resolve minor procedural issues, manage time, planning and prioritise work tasks. Staff Supervision and Support Provide specialist supervision and secondary consultation as required to other team leaders, support coordinators and direct care staff, tailored to the needs of supporting individual consumers Provide assistance, as required, to the Executive Director of Professional Practice. Provide effective and positive leadership, modelling cooperation and mutual support and make a positive contribution to a collaborative and harmonious professional environment. Participate in staff meetings, case discussions, secondary consultations, work practice reviews and program planning forums Assist staff to identify and access training and professional development opportunities Strategic Partnership and Community Liaison Develop and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including existing partnerships with NDIA, Government departments, funding bodies and other Community Service organisations. Represent Ermha in a positive and professional manner in the community. Maintain healthy and positive professional relationships with Ermha staff, consumers, carers, families, visitors and volunteers. Service Accountability and Financial Management Ensure compliance with requirements of external funding bodies and internal organisational requirements in a timely manner Follow and adhere to DHHS incident reporting and quality of care guidelines and ensure that internal incident reports are completed and submitted to the relevant contacts within stipulated timeframes. Review issues arising from incidents to inform Behaviour Intervention Strategies as well as service and system improvements. Prepare considered and well written reports to the Manager Ermha 360 South East and other senior management, reflecting achievements, challenges, exceptions and actions, as requested in a timely manner. Ensure identification of program level risks and contribute to the development of risk mitigation strategies. Page 3 of 5

Participate Ermha s On Call Management System which is rotated between senior managers Other duties as required. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Tertiary Qualifications and Professional registration as a Psychologist is Mandatory. 2. At least 4 years experience working in the fields of Mental Health, dual disability or dual diagnosis support, and of working with those who are disadvantaged in the community with particular reference to people whose needs or circumstances are complex 3. Demonstrated understanding of issues for people with a mental illness and/or disability and a strong commitment to client directed care 4. A well-developed understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and its impact on outcomes for clients and existing models of service delivery 5. Demonstrated ability to manage and develop services including service evaluation, implementation of strategic priorities, policy development and financial management 6. Demonstrated ability to lead and engage others in developing creative solutions to client and service system issues in a resourceful and reflective manner 7. Excellent people management skills, a consultative and collaborative leadership style and a demonstrated ability to supervise and support staff 8. Highly developed interpersonal and networking skills and a demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence effectively to build productive relationships with stakeholders 9. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to tailor information to different audiences 10.
