JORDAHL Anchor Channels and Accessories JORDAHL Basic Methods Application and Design Consideration JORDAHL cast-in channels are the originals and superior fastening system that withstands applied loads on reinforced concrete components. Safety benefits astening without damaging the structural body Approved safety by building authorities High loading capacity both in small or large reinforced components Not affected by shrinkage or movement of concrete component Suited for installation in component compression and tensile stress zones Suited for components with fire protection requirements Installation benefits Accurate positioning of channels by simple attachment to formwork Quick and easy installation of joining structures Simple adjustment of joining structure Construction tolerances can be balanced quickly Easy installation without specialized tools Selection of products JORDAHL offers the channel system suitable for all applications of building construction and civil engineering. The choice of channel depends upon: load direction (for full loading criteria pages 8 to 12) type of load (static or dynamic page 15) Anchor profiles for JTA channels fire protection requirements ( page 15) Planning Channel selection should occur at the design stage and their type, length and location should be included in the concrete reinforcements drawings. Ideally not only the live loads, but also future stress due to reconstruction phases should be taken into consideration. Planning observations The subsequent observations for choosing the correct channel should include: applied loads edge distances dimensions of components application areas depending on corrosion protection JORDAHL Cast-in Channels Product Range JORDAHL JTA channels for pull out and shear loading JORDAHL channels are manufactured: with welded I-anchors or with welded or clinched bolt anchors. JORDAHL JTA channels are officially approved (certificate No. Z-21.4-151) applicable for load ranges from 3,0 to 35,0 kn suitable for installation in ceilings requiring fire safety measures ( page 15). The following channels are approved for dynamic loadings: JTA W 74/48; JTA W 54/43; JTA W 53/34; JTA W 50/30; JTA W 40/22 JORDAHL toothed JZA channels for withstanding loads in all directions for loads in longitudinal channel direction from 3,5 to 5,0 kn for installation in tensile and compression zones officially approved (certificate No. Z-21.4-741) JORDAHL JRA channels for high static and dynamic loads as profile W 74/48 with reinforced steel anchors for single loads up to 40 kn range of stress 38 kn certificate AZ: 2.2/20247 JORDAHL JSA channels for secondary applications as profile K 38/17, K 28/15 with strap anchors assembled on site Accessories JORDAHL T bolts are perfectly designed to comply with the JORDAHL channel systems. With a full range of JORDAHL accessories almost every problem of fastening systems can be effectively solved. JORDAHL accessories ensure: perfect compliance with the JORDAHL channels accurate fit to connecting elements Examples of JORDAHL special channel applications As example design aids JORDAHL have prepared some working details and solutions in critical building areas. These start on page 50: balcony securing with channels elevator construction 4

JORDAHL Anchor Channels and Accessories JORDAHL Basic Methods On site Assembly Cutting Channels can also be cut to the required length on site. The following should be noted: Each channel piece must have at least two anchors The cut may only be made up to 25 mm following an anchor astening to the formwork JORDAHL channels should be installed at the required position and flush with the concrete surface. In order to avoid displacement during the process of applying concrete, the channels are fastened to the formwork. astening variations Pre punched holes in the back of channels allow for nailing to timber formwork (see illustration) Nailing to the channels with tacks or staples Use of sealant if uneven formwork leaves unacceptable gaps (see illustration) Using JORDAHL T bolts and nuts fixings to the steel formwork can be achieved Using magnetic fixings to the steel formwork 25 250 25 250 25 250 250 250 Cutting the channels (non-illustrated: anchor channel K 50/30 with 35 mm projection) Sealing channels Nailing to timber formwork Bolts grade 4.6 25 Channel infill After removing the formwork the channel is cleaned on the outside to remove residue. The channel filling which prevented penetration of new concrete should be removed. or this purpose a hammer, spanner or a hook can be used. Locking of T bolts into channel Attaching components, e.g. angles should be preassembled with JORDAHL T bolts, washers and nuts. The JORDAHL bolt is inserted into the channel slot. It is only correctly located when the notch at the end of bolt is at 90 to the channel slot. After adjustment, the nut can be tightened to the required torque. JORDAHL JORDAHL Anchor Channels and Accessories Basic Methods Surface ixed Components Offset ixing Components U washer for spacing assembly Surface fixed component Offset assembly The top edge of the channel should be flush with the concrete surface. If the channel is recessed, the detail is lined with a washer in accordance with the table below. or an offset assembly the detail is subject to stress resulting from the bending moment in addition to pull out and resultant loads. Therefore, the selection of the correct bolt must take the allowable bending moment ( page 35) into consideration. JORDAHL Anchor Channels and Accessories JORDAHL Basic Methods Area of shear loads 15 Single load Area of combined pull out and shear loads 150 Load pairs 250 250 15 Area of shear loads 100 250 100 Direction of load Load arrangement Load in longitudinal channel direction Loadings Channels can carry various loads and disperse them in the concrete. The loads are differentiated according to direction of load actual load static and dynamic loads load in case of fire This information determines selection of the correct channel profile. Load direction In principle the loads are differentiated between loads vertical to the channel and loads in a longitudinal channel direction. The applied load vertical to the channel are considered to have pull out and resultant loading. The allowable loads can differ according to anchor spacing and strength of concrete ( page 10 onwards). or loads in the longitudinal direction of the channel, JORDAHL JZA toothed channels should be used ( page 22). In a certain degree channels transfer loads in longitudinal direction by friction ( page 16). Load distribution The allowable load of a channel depends on anchor and loading arrangement: for single loads with a maximum spacing of 250 mm for load pairs with a spacing of 100 mm between the components of the load pair and minimum spacing of 250 mm between two load pairs Load Dispersion All loads exerted on the channel are dispersed via the anchors into the concrete. The following should be considered: choice of channel/anchor depth concrete strength spacing of the channels to the edge thickness of component required reinforcement. A reduction of edge spacing or the installation of a smaller component can be achieved with additional reinforcement ( page 18). Without additional reinforcement a reduction of edge spacing is only possible if the load is reduced at the same time. Areas of application JORDAHL channels JSA can be especially used for fastening structures without a loading function. The anchors by only be used in reinforced regular concrete of property class B15. They may be used without requiring any further proof, if the conditions of the anchor channel guideline have been observed (Version 3/75 stating that attached loads may have an area load of up to 1 kn/m 2.) Assembly Straps are inserted in pre punched loops at the back of channel with max. spacing of 250 mm (once the channel has been mounted on formwork). The straps are bent up to a right angle with each end turned over by 50 mm (see illus.). A strap must be fitted at each end of channel. or installation, observe the distance to the edge stated on page 17.
