Presentation of the main functionalities SafeGround July 2008 Safety at airside ground movements
SafeGround: Main Goals A GPS/EGNOS modular solution seeking the improvement of airport ground traffic movements in conformity to the specifications, requirements and procedures defined by ICAO and EUROCONTROL: Enhance safety at the airside area; Provide accurate location based data within the right space-temporal context to support decision makers; Support airport stakeholders in their daily operational management activities; High scalability in heterogeneous environments, in particular for extreme meteorological conditions (e.g. LVO), emergencies or congestion situations; Full coverage of the movement area: Runways, Taxiways and Aprons; Monitoring and managing ground movements (aircrafts, vehicles and equipment) from a centralized control centre; Integration of multiple airport data derived from diverse data sources. 2
SafeGround: Communication Conceptual Model Communication Server is responsible to validate and assure data transmission security; Support of multiple wireless technologies (e.g.,, WiFi, CDMA); Transparent network connection with existing airport infrastructure; NAV IKUSI Communications based on IP; Adoption of the ASTERIX protocol to exchange messages between the onboard and the ground system. Conformity to international standards (ICAO and EUROCONTROL) Support of video and voice simultaneous communications Onboard Equipment Onboard Equipment NETWORK Onboard Equipment Communications Server AIRPORT NETWORK Systems Interface Server External Systems Application Server SGO ATCO Real-time data flow between onboard systems and the control centre. Onboard System Network System Handlers Ground System 3
SafeGround : Control Centre (main functionalities) Conformity to A-SMGCS safety requirements: Seamless integration with the ATC aircraft monitoring systems Real-time surveillance of all mobiles on the airside area Alerts management: Incursions Infractions Other occurrences Vehicle guidance services on the airside area Support of basic routing & planning services Location-based data fusion with business data (metadata about the driver, vehicle, tasks, airport status, etc.). 4
SafeGround: Operational Management Display of dynamic labels with multiple configuration options; Interface to specify which alerts need to have sound and visual notifications; Report of occurrences: Occurrence classification; Attach of filed images; Printing; Send by email Export reported occurrences to XML for a seamless interoperability with existing systems; Surveillance with video monitoring from fixed cameras and mobile cameras installed within the vehicles Pre-defined occurrence reporting Task management Status information about the airport, TWYs, stands, roadways, flights; Interface for historical data analysis. 5
Onboard System: Examples COTS & Customized devices Magnetic support GBox COTS for harsh environments of mission-critical vehicles can be used (ex. Motorola, Intermec) or developed according with user requirements 6
Possible extension of SAFEGROUND outside the airport TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER FROM AIRPORT DOMAIN TO ROAD DOMAIN: Navigation Signal EGNOS/GALILEO Wireless Networks Operational Management Systems ( Transport Control Centers Trafic Control Centers) GNSS Navigation New services to the drivers: To improve safety & avoid accidents Based on the situation awareness and responsibility of drivers Adapted to the variety of drivers profiles (leisure, 7
