PURPOSE AND INTRODUCTION This report summarises preliminary program and spatial analysis studies undertaken as part of a broader pre-schematic / schematic stage effort for the Miami Intermodal Center Project (MIC). The accompanying work has been prepared by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners USA Ltd, under the direction of the MIC Management Group (MMG) Facilities Team. Significant contributions to enable the evaluation of ideas in the areas of carparking and roadway design have been made by the MMG Roadways Team, and by sub-consultant firms Graelic Inc. and BHA Engineers. The overall MIC project study area is bounded by NW 46 th Street to the north, NW 11 th Street to the south, NW 27 th Avenue to the east and the landside terminal area of MIA with a section of SR 836 westward to NW 57 th Avenue to the west. The MIC is envisaged to provide a transportation hub that facilitates regional travel in Dade County. Its primary objective is to provide a safe, efficient and economical means of interchange between separate modes of transport in an attractive and truly integrated setting. The MIC Core program specifically comprises of the following key elements: Rail Node, including heavy rail transportation modes both at grade and elevated. Public Concourses connecting all transport modes to the MIC / MIA Connector. Bus Facilities: MDTA, Greyhound & Cruise Line. Airport Landside Program. Miami Intermodal Center and Miami International Airport APM Station (MIC-MIA Connector). Arrivals and departures roadways for the airport landside program. Parking. The analysis to-date has concentrated upon the planning and operational characteristics of each of the major program elements. Each component has been considered in terms of functionality and then spatially in combination with other elements. The format of this report has been structured in such a way as to reflect this process. Through this process a number of planning scenarios for the MIC Core project have emerged and are recorded here for more detailed future evaluation. Importantly, these scenarios have progressed within the context of the overall MIC project and have therefore been developed in tandem with the design of the adjacent Rental Car Facility and MTAR roadway scheme.
