Safety and orientation easily have top priority with car parks and parking lots. More and better light makes sure that signage, vehicles and people can be more clearly and rapidly recognised. Well-illuminated parking areas without large shadow zones reduce the risk of accidents, and together with good facial recognition communicate a feeling of more comfort and personal security. Lighting solutions for multistorey car parks and outdoor parking lots must fulfil a variety of criteria, for example regarding IP ratings and light distribution. Sensor-based light management systems and controllable luminaires always provide just enough light to comply with the requirements of standard-compliant lighting, the course of the day or the weather. Traffic safety All traffic participants must easily be able to recognise drivers entering or exiting the car park and pedestrians looking for their vehicle. At the same time the routing and signage, for example the exit, should be easy to see and understandable. Personal safety It is just as important to feel safe at all times independently of the traffic, for example when walking alone through a car park. Facial recognition Only horizontal illumination throws shadows and makes the identification of faces more difficult (left). Vertical lighting prevents this: faces and expressions can be easily recognised and lead to less shadowing (right).
