Upgrades, Updates, and Hotfixes ( cont d) Product Split into Two Parts Platform Kernel things, and some X++ code that are lower-level; Batch Framework, Number Sequences, Print Management, User Info, etc. Application Business Logic, Customers, Sales Orders, Production Module, etc. Binary Items: Financial Reporting (MR), SSRS framework for AX
( cont d) Upgrades, Updates, and Hotfixes Releases Platform Platform now releases a monthly update. The platform consists of both the lower-level kernel binaries, as well as some X++ packages. Platform packages are "sealed" from over-layering, so even though you do get updated X++ code on your development boxes, you don't actually compile or customize these. You can extend them, of course. Application The application consists of: Binaries: MR, SSRS components for AX, etc. Metadata: All the X++ code related to the application (Sales Orders, Customers, etc.). A release is considered a major or minor version change. The original version of AX7 had application 7.0. The fall release (2016) was 7.1. The Spring release in 2017 is 7.2. This is different than the platform, which is backwards compatible, so there's no major or minor release change. An application release means it's both the binaries and the metadata combined as one release.
How To Apply These Updates and Upgrades
Where to find the current version
Product Update 11 October 2017 Attachment presence and document count indicator When viewing a record, the system indicates the number of attachments on that record by showing a count on the Attachments button. The count will show up to 0-9+ attachments. Auditing System logging of user sign in/out now enabled. Sign out is logged even if user's session expires or ends.
Copy legal entity configurations to a new legal entity As new companies are needed, users will be able to save time (And errors!) by copying an existing legal entity s setup to the new company. This allows onboarding of new locations quickly, while staying consistent with the company s golden template design.
Product Update 10 August 2017 Browser client - Support for keyboard shortcut sequences Key sequences now supported. A key sequence allows an action to be triggered by pressing two key combinations sequentially. For example: Alt+M followed immediately by pressing the N key, is a new shortcut for moving focus to the navigation bar. To do this Open action search Move to the standard Action Pane Open a tab on the Action Pane or a menu Move to next/previous option in a menu Close a tab on the Action Pane or a menu Simulate a right-click Open the Finance and Operations context menu Execute the default button on a form/dialog box Click a button or tile View refresh information for a count tile Press Ctrl+ or Alt+Q Alt+M,A or Ctrl+F6 Enter or Space or Alt+Down arrow Down arrow / Up arrow Esc Shift+F10 Ctrl+F10 Alt+Enter Enter or Space Alt+Up arrow Other shortcuts https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/fin-and-ops/get-started/shortcut-keys
Excel add-in enables passing header context to detail records Allows the creation of header records in addition to line records. For example, for journal entry, you can use Open Lines in Excel for a journal, publish that journal, and then create a new journal directly in Excel. This removes the need to return to the Finance and Operations client.
Application Release & Product Update 9 July 2017 Accounts payable check templates using Electronic Reporting Two default check format templates are provided in Accounts payable. These check templates have been created using the Excel capabilities of the Electronic reporting tool. These checks templates are compatible with US check formats.

Vendor invoice automation Sample integration scenario where company partners with an OCR service provider for vendor invoice processing. Company s vendors send invoices to the service provider by email. Through OCR processing, the service provider generates invoice metadata (header and/or lines) and a scanned image of the invoice. An integration layer then transforms these artifacts so that Finance and Operations can consume them.
Vendor self-service portal and collaboration The Vendor collaboration module is targeted at vendors who don t have electronic data interchange (EDI) integration with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations. It allows vendors to work with purchase order, invoice, and consignment inventory information.

You can use quantity & unit of measure (UOM) associated with a scanned bar code. This works for receiving on inbound flows, including mixed license plate receiving, purchase order item, transfer order item, and load item. In previous versions, it wasn t possible to, for example, verify item quantities to be picked by scanning item bar codes or to scan bar codes for larger quantities.
