A Complete Guide to Instrumentation for Non-Instrumentation People 18-DEC-16 This course is Designed, Developed, and will be Delivered under ISO Quality Standards 03-07 December 2017 Dubai, U.A.E.

A Complete Guide to Instrumentation for Non-Instrumentation People Why Choose this Training Course? Are one of the thousands of people that have looked across at instrumentation personnel going about their daily tasks and silently thought Wow, if I ever had the opportunity to re-choose my career, I would definitely select the field of instrumentation!? If so, then this Complete Guide to Instrumentation for Non-Instrumentation People training course offers you the next best thing, namely a complete week in which to gain familiarity and hands-on experience in some of the more important aspects pertinent to instrumentation. The aim of this workshop is to bridge the gap, and to make instrumentation more accessible and easier to understand, to all. During this training course, you will be introduced to transmitters, programmable equipment, computer simulators, instrumentation diagrams and other material. The aim of the workshop is to take the mystery out of the field of instrumentation, and to empower you to converse with instrumentation people with a lot more insight and knowledge, in their field of expertise. This will not only improve your self-confidence, but also allow you to play a more productive role in increasing the performance of your operation, regardless of your current position and experience. This training course will feature: The most common measuring devices (pressure, level, temperature and flow) Final control elements (focusing mainly on valves and actuators, but also an introduction to VSDs) SCADA, DCS and HMI Programmable Logic Controllers Process control, and the instrumentation behind it What are the Goals? Learn about all the most common types of instrumentation signals that are used in your operation Familiarize yourself with instrumentation terminology, definitions and acronyms Interpret and create P&ID diagrams, applicable to your working environment Understand digital communication aspects (including Fieldbus and HART) Select the best equipment (and combinations of equipment) for a specific application At the end of this training course, you will learn to: Calculate vital calibration information, specific to certain transmitters Design and apply basic screens and features applicable to SCADA, DCS and HMI devices Develop basic PLC programs and understand how these devices work Consider Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and equipment utilization in hazardous areas Employ techniques to assist in optimizing control loops Who is this Training Course for? This PetroKnowledge training course has been specially tailored for everyone that either encounters instrumentation (either directly or indirectly), or has a specific interest in it. It has been designed for all levels of personnel, regardless of their background. It would be hard to think of a discipline that would not benefit from this material. This training course is suitable to a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit: Operators Supervisors Engineers from non-instrumentation disciplines Artisans and foremen from non-instrumentation disciplines Financial staff Safety and health coordinators Lower, middle and top management Mechanical and electrical apprentices, and newly qualified instrumentation personnel who need to be brought up to speed very quickly Admin staff HR representatives Cost controllers How will this Training Course be Presented? This is, very much, a hands-on training course. The most important work is covered in a theoretical manner. But, there are several practical exercises that back up the course content. Pre- and post-course tests, individual and group-based exercises, open discussions and computer simulations are used to transfer vital knowledge. Delegates are encouraged to bring their own (non-apple) computers, to take full benefit of the limited-time duration software simulators that will be utilized. www.petroknowledge.com

Daily Topics Day One Introduction to Instrumentation, Documentation, Pressure and Flow Competency description: Teamwork is crucial. But, being an effective team member is only half the job. You also need to have the skills to effectively communicate with your peers. When you have greater insight into their area of expertise, they will be able to communicate at a higher level with you, and the understanding of both parties will be enhanced. Discriminating between analog and digital signals Utilizing 4-20 ma, 0-10 Vdc, and other signals Internalizing definitions and concepts that are crucial to measurement Being able to interpret and design P&ID diagrams Understanding atmospheric, gauge, differential and absolute pressure Gaining insight into differential pressure, time-offlight, PDM and other flow measuring techniques The A-Z of typical instrumentation signals that may be encountered Instrumentation terminology and definitions Accuracy, repeatability, linearization, and a host of other terms applicable to instrumentation Instrumentation drawings and diagrams (including P&IDs) Instrumentation documentation Pressure, pressure concepts and pressure measuring devices Flow and flow measuring devices Day Two Level, Temperature, Valves, Actuators and other Final Control Elements Competency description: Understanding the capacities of measuring devices is important. Getting these devices to communicate with final control elements has the added benefit of optimizing the loop that it is part of. Level devices that provide all sorts of solutions, and the benefits that can be obtained Insight into thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors, and pyrometers Differentiating between a vast assortment of valves (ball, butterfly, globe, gate, single-seated, etc.) Doing basic valve sizing calculations Differentiating between pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical actuator and equipment Level and level measuring devices Temperature and temperature measuring devices Valve types, principles and operation Actuator types, principles and operations The thought processes behind valve sizing Additional final control elements (such as variable speed drives, et cetera) Day Three PLCs, Safety Instrumented Systems and Hazardous Areas Competency description: Knowing the capabilities and limitations of Programmable Electronic Systems (PES) is important, in improving plant productivity and capability. Ensuring that there is a multi-level approach to safety improves your whole operation, and ensures compliance with plant, national and international standards. Using different types of IO in the RTU, and getting these to and from the RTU CPUs, memory, diagnostic indicators and other concepts pertaining to the RTU Understanding what basic ladder logic programming is all about Understanding hazardous areas, zones and zone classification Checking to see if equipment is compatible with hazardous areas and zones QUALITY CERTIFICATION APPROVED P R O V I D E R P. Operators and supervisors need to be skilled and equipped to make important decisions in very short times. By getting more information, and information that is effective, operational staff can make the right decisions, in the shortest possible time. But, they must also be able to speak to technical staff, on a level that includes full understanding of plant data capturing devices. Using SCADA and DCS on a screen Designing basic graphics and screens Dealing with alarms and graphical trends Working with digital communication, and the benefits it brings Day Five Process control, Loop Tuning and Putting Everything Together Competency description: Identifying when better control can be implemented, and being able to decide on the best control strategy. Being able to identify when crucial loops are ineffective, and being able to request loop optimization. Control strategies, and how these benefit the plant and can be implemented Understanding capacitive and other processes Making use of PID control Being able to assist in tuning methods, when the plant is either in manual or automatic control Looking at the plant, from a global perspective Types of processes Types of process control Feedback, feed forward, cascade and ratio control Three term control Open- and closed-loop tuning Putting everything together, to facilitate achieving successful results Introduction and background to SCADA Introduction and background to distributed control systems (DCS) Introduction and background Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) Digital communication and protocols Foundation Fieldbus Process Fieldbus HART Basic SCADA / DCS screen design and implementation Member of Clear Concepts.
