CANDIDATE INFORMATION PACK Head of Stand Up To Cancer February 2018
WELCOME Hello and welcome, I am so pleased that you re interested in working at Cancer Research UK and on the Stand Up To Cancer campaign, which takes developments in the labs and accelerates them into brand new tests and treatments for cancer patients who need them right now. As Executive Director of Fundraising & Marketing, I have the pleasure of working for this amazing cause, alongside a talented and diverse group of people. Did you know that one in two people born in the UK after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives? Thanks to our supporters we have doubled cancer survival rates in the last 40 years and right now, half of the people diagnosed with cancer, will survive. But there is still so much more to do. Every day, scientists, doctors and nurses are working to save more lives. They re preventing more cancers, diagnosing the disease earlier, and developing new treatments. Progress that wouldn t happen without the hard work and vision of our employees, and the generosity and tremendous efforts of our supporters. It is a thoroughly exciting time to join CRUK. We re at the start of a brand new strategy that aims to transform our relationships with supporters and develop radical new approaches to fundraising, and we have the scale, ambition and drive to truly change fundraising in the UK. Cancer is happening right now. With your help, we can beat it sooner. Ed Aspel Executive Director of Fundraising & Marketing TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN, VISIT STANDUPTOCANCER.ORG.UK 2

ABOUT STAND UP TO CANCER Brought to you by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is an annual fundraising campaign that culminates in October with a night of live TV and mass public participation. On May 28, 2008, Stand Up To Cancer was co-founded in the USA by film and media leaders and the Entertainment Industry Foundation on a simple premise: accelerate innovative cancer research that will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. Since then, every day has brought with it new challenges, new inspiration, new progress and new hope. OVER 38 MILLION RAISED TO DATE 100% OF MONEY RAISED GOES TOWARDS LIFE SAVING RESEARCH In 2012, Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK joined forces to launch Stand Up To Cancer in the UK, to accelerate life-saving cancer research. Led by the brightest stars in film, TV and music, it was the most successful charity fundraiser on UK commercial TV in its first year ever. Following on from that the campaign has now raised over 38 million. The money raised so far has been spent funding clinical trials, which aim to improve survival rates and bring breakthroughs in labs to the patients who need them. Over 9,000 people have, or are about to benefit from these cutting edge trials, and this is still only the beginning.
