Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of reporting or associate degree in reporting and one year of experience in verbatim shorthand reporting and transcribing. Employees in this class must have obtained their Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). Minimum Education and Experience All certified court reporters must maintain their RPR certification by completing three continuing education units (CEUs) every three years and maintaining certification status with NCRA. Employees in this class must maintain such certification throughout their employment with the Colorado Judicial Department. Colorado Certified Shorthand Reporters (CSRs) hired into this classification before June 30, 2009, must obtain RPR certification by June 30, 2011. Distinguishing Factors: Employees in this classification have successfully obtained their Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certification through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) **Non-Certified employees who are appointed and supervised directly by an elected official such as a judge are excluded from FLSA regulations. Employees who do not meet these conditions are non-exempt. Essential Functions Of the Position: Reports proceedings of court trials, hearings, or conferences by shorthand, stenotype, or other methods where verbatim records are required by law. Transcribes the proceedings into accurate transcripts for purposes of appeal or by order of the court. Identifies participants by name to facilitate reporting; reads aloud statements of participants as requested during proceedings. Prepares and distributes transcripts and related reports and documents. Reviews transcriptions for technical accuracy. Maintains File/S and records of notes and exhibits. Performs clerical duties related to the court. Some positions may schedule hearings and proceedings and perform computer case processing related duties. Attends meetings and training as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisor Responsibilities: No formal supervisory responsibility. Responsibility for one's own work product and work within a unit performing similar functions.
