PLANT MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN (PME) ON THE JOB TRAINING All Safety Practices Must and Shall be Observed at All Times Trainee is responsible for ensuring he/she has received Safety Training before performing related assigned tasks All Installation and Workmanship Shall Conform to the Requirements of the National Electrical Code 1. Safety Training: Receives training in the following areas, and demonstrates ability to incorporate safety awareness with day-to-day work practices. Confined Space Training Lockout-Tag Out and the safe release of stored energy Personal Protective Equipment as it relates to the position, Including but not limited to assisting an IT in medium voltage switching. Electrical Safety Awareness Class (High voltage electrical safety) Ladders and personal lift devices 2. Blueprint Reading: Exhibit the capability and skill level in these areas by troubleshooting with schematics and drawings. Schematics and drawings Dimensional techniques Sectional views o Datum coordinates Geometric Characteristic Symbols Abbreviations Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for print altering No changes, revisions or deletions can be made to this document without submitting a Curriculum Addendum form (available in Intranet library) to Human Resources for review.

3. Shop Equipment Training: Show that you have the ability and skill to set-up and safely operate the following. Specific task tools and equipment Tools or equipment supplied by District for the use to perform maintenance and/or repair of equipment. o for the safe use of specific task tools and equipment. Horizontal and Vertical Band Saws, Bench and Hand Grinder o Perform a cutting operation utilizing each of the cutting tools. Then de-bur the piece utilizing both the Bench Grinder and the Hand Grinder. Conduit Bending Equipment o Break down the bender and then set up to bend for no less than two different sizes of two different types of conduit raceway. Perform a bending operation a total of four times to the requested radius. Conduit Threading Equipment o Break down the threader and setup the equipment to thread no less than two different sizes of Conduit for permanent installation. 4. Electrical Low Voltage: Demonstrate competency and skill level in these areas. Demonstrate the operation of the following equipment: o Multi-meters o Ammeters o Voltage Indicator Wiggy o Temperature Probe o Megohm Meter o Thermography Equipment o Phase meter o High Voltage Equipment, Hot Sticks, Ground Straps o High voltage digital volt meter (HVDVM) JTAC updated 3/24/2008 2 JTAC origin 05/31/07

Industrial Wiring - Be familiar with wiring in an industrial setting. Installation and maintenance of distribution panels. The installation of lighting fixtures. o Draw a schematic for installation, including wire and over current protection sizing. Upon approval of drawing, install per schematic. Three-phase systems - Motor principles for induction, synchronous and multi-speed dual voltage motors. Recommended maintenance practices for AC motors. Principles of three-phase motor starters, reversing, jogging. Three-phase power distribution. o Explain to your Supervisors each of the preceding principles (where relevant) using an existing piece of equipment in your respective plant and their impact of operation to the plant. Transformer wiring three and four wire, Wye-Delta wiring and single phase transformer connections and installations. o Wire a transformer to obtain the proper secondary voltages. Note: all jumpers are to be removed prior to trainee demonstration Electric motor controls - starters, overloads, control voltage, main power fuses. o Install a motor starter assembly for permanent working operation. Troubleshooting: Safely demonstrate troubleshooting skills on equipment such as: o Lighting o Power distribution o Motor control circuits o PLC s o Process control devices o Explain your findings to your supervisor and the corrective action you used to resolve the fault. Programmable Logic Controllers- Understand the main components in a PLC system. Be familiar with the diagnostics of a PLC. Be familiar with I/O addressing and discrete outputs. 5. Process Devices: Demonstrate competency and skill level in these areas. Varying motor speed devices - Identify and correct drive system problems. Identify and correct major drive components. Program and adjust the drive for desired operation. o Install a varying Motor speed device. Setup Parameters for proper operation. Direct Current motor speed devices - Identify and correct drive system problems. Identify and correct major drive components. Program and/or adjust the drive for desired operation. o Install a DC Motor speed device. Setup Parameters for proper operation. Valve/Gate actuator control and maintenance - Setting the switch mechanism position limits, torque protection and end of travel settings. Analog and digital valve position indicators. Setup all facets of Valve /Gate adjustments for proper operation. 6. Electrical Hardware: Demonstrate competency and skill level in these areas. Conduit installation - Competent with EMT and RIGID types of conduit from ½-inch to 2-inch using hand and power bending equipment. Draw an installation with a bill of materials. o Demonstrate the use of all types of bending apparatus o Demonstrate proper wire pulling methods and conduit fill o Demonstrate use of all types of conduit and fittings, including but not limited to hangers, condulets, and associated fittings o Demonstrate knowledge of proper type and installation of all conduits and fittings including when and where they should be used o Demonstrate knowledge of NEC industrial standards Upon approval of drawings perform installation. Control panels Design layout of electrical components in panels and fabrication. Including the drilling, tapping, punching, and wiring of a panel, and bracket fabrication. o Design a layout of a control panel with a bill of material. Upon approved layout, assemble hardware. Wire according to District standards following designed schematic. This installation is to be for permanent operation 7. Sub-station High Voltage: (Prerequisite: Safety Training Electrical Safety Awareness) Read and interpret transformer nameplates. Identify and interpret construction and manufacturers prints. Installation and maintenance of batteries and battery chargers. Identify, record, and interpret relay targets. Be able to explain the identified relay and control panel devices from relay and control panel wiring diagrams. Proper breaker removal and installation procedures. Explain to your supervisor all proper procedural operations required in reference to Sub-station, including Kirk key principles and the safety principles for isolating and de-energizing a breaker or bus section. Show the proper use of PPE. Perform general maintenance or repair that may be required for proper operation of ancillary Substation equipment, such as heaters, meters, fuses, etc. 8. Demonstrates Operational Impact Knowledge: Demonstrate the understanding as it relates to cause and effect of task(s) at hand. Be able to explain each task as to how it has a larger impact on related systems. Demonstrate competency and skill in the approach to troubleshooting with the risk of impact.
